Kim Porter Admitted Her Family Wanted to ‘Beat Up’ Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
Kim Porter said she found out about Sean “Diddy” Combs’ relationship with Jennifer Lopez through a friend. At the time, Porter had recently welcomed the couple’s first child, and she said the news of his new relationship devastated her. She and Diddy eventually got back together, which she said was a challenge for him. She wanted him to prove he was serious about the relationship, and he had to win her family back over. According to Porter, they were furious with him.
Kim Porter’s family was not happy with Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
Porter and Diddy broke up when he began a relationship with Lopez. Diddy and Lopez dated between 1999 and 2001, but she left him amid his trial for involvement in a nightclub shooting. Diddy was acquitted, but Porter believed the experience left him a changed man.
“I think the threat of losing his freedom forced him to grow up and take responsibility for his actions,” Porter told Essence, adding, “[He was] forced to come to me to work things out. And he really had to jump through some hoops. He was on the plane every weekend, talking to my mom and my grandmother and telling the kids, ‘Daddy made a mistake.’”
She said her family was not happy with him. They backed her up and were likely not happy to see Diddy.
“It wasn’t like I had been going out with Puffy by myself, I had a whole family behind me,” Porter said. “I had cousins who wanted to beat him up.”
She said she was also furious with him
During their breakup, Diddy tried to maintain contact with Porter. She said this infuriated her at times.
“He was calling fifty, sixty times a day,” she said. “Sometimes I wouldn’t even talk to him because I was so angry. I couldn’t be ‘nice Kim.’ I had to be, you know, that b****. Like, this is not going down.”
She said she made her feelings clear to him.
“My feeling was, you made this decision, now stay over there,” she said. “I can’t repeat everything I said at the time, because it’s really not that ladylike. But I was very expressive about it.”
Porter admitted she even threw a “small” television at Diddy.
Kim Porter admitted her father helped her forgive Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs
After multiple conversations between Diddy and her father, Porter said the latter helped her take him back.
“I don’t know what those conversations were like,” Porter said, “but it was enough for my father to say to me, ‘Kimberly, I made a mistake with your mother. We all make mistakes.’”
Porter believed Diddy had done enough to prove he cared about her.
“I’m not impressed with things — not a bag or shoes or a car — I’ve got a lot of stuff,” she said. “Impress me with your person. Show me you can be a really good man. That’s how to impress me.”
