Jake Porter knew Combs for years. He liked Combs while he dated his daughter, and later mourned with him at her 2018 funeral. He said he felt shocked by the recent allegations against him.

“The truth will come out,” he told the Daily Mail. “It always does in the end.”

While he declined to comment on the charges piling up against Combs, he said the video of him attacking Cassie Ventura horrified him.

“When I saw the video of what he did to Cassie,” Porter said, “I was disgusted. I don’t really have much to say beyond that.”

Jake Porter declined to comment on how he thinks Diddy’s trial will go. He feels confident that the truth will prevail, though.

“Everyone’s innocent until proven guilty I guess, but the truth will come out,” he said.

When Combs and Porter broke up for the first time, he tried to get her back. His infidelity ended the relationship. To make amends, he consistently flew to Georgia, where she was living with family.

“I think the threat of losing his freedom forced him to grow up and take responsibility for his actions,” Porter told Essence, adding, “[He was] forced to come to me to work things out. And he really had to jump through some hoops. He was on the plane every weekend, talking to my mom and my grandmother and telling the kids, ‘Daddy made a mistake.’”

She said her father ultimately helped her forgive Combs.

“I don’t know what those conversations were like,” Porter said, “but it was enough for my father to say to me, ‘Kimberly, I made a mistake with your mother. We all make mistakes.’”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ mother spoke about his arrest

Many people have either condemned Combs or tried to distance themselves from him. His mother is standing by his side, though.

“It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies,” she wrote in a statement, per the BBC.

She does not believe he did everything his accusers say he did.

“My son may not have been entirely truthful about certain things, such as denying he has ever gotten violent with an ex-girlfriend when the hotel’s surveillance showed otherwise,” she said. “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story, especially when that truth is outside the norm or is too complicated to be believed. This is why I believe my son’s civil legal team opted to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit instead of contesting it until the end, resulting in a ricochet effect as the federal government used this decision against my son by interpreting it as an admission of guilt.”
