King Charles Always ‘Showers’ His Favorite People With Things Now It’s Time He Rewards ‘Deserving Kate’ Amid Cancer Battle, Former Royal Employee Says
This time of year is one of the busiest in the royal family‘s calendar. Following weeks of rehearsal the big Trooping the Colour parade, a military procession to celebrate the monarch’s official birthday, takes place. That event kicks off several days of engagements for the working royals including Royal Ascot and the Order of the Garter ceremony.
This year has been a challenging one for Britain’s famous family as both King Charles and the Princess of Wales (formerly known as Kate Middleton) revealed their cancer diagnosis and that they were receiving treatment. Now, a former royal employee believes that with everything that’s been going on it’s time for the king to reward the princess as she is “deserving” of a specific honor.
Former aide says King Charles ‘showers’ people around him and ‘rewards’ favorites
Paul Burrell began working in the royal household when he was 18 years old and served as Queen Elizabeth II‘s personal footman. In 1987, he was moved to the household of then-Prince Charles and Princess Diana. When they separated, Burrell served as Diana’s butler and looked after her and her sons until the princess’s death.
The former assistant explained that over the years, Charles would “shower” people around him with “titles and gifts” except one person.
Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Burrell revealed: “The king showers the people around him who he favors [with] royal titles and gifts. He does it because he wants to be loved and reward them for their service to him and the country. If this was fair there are so many unsung heroes out there who should be elevated and celebrated because of their work for our country.
“Diana, Princess of Wales, was married to Charles for 15 years before they divorced but never received one award from the royal family. Nothing for her contribution to society or the world. I have a problem with that because I think she should have been. But she was never celebrated in the way the king is celebrating his family. I want to see this survive but I find it difficult to get across the bridge of nepotism.”
Ex-butler thinks it’s time the king rewards the new Princess of Wales
Burrell is hoping the king doesn’t make the same mistake with his daughter-in-law that he did with his first wife and decides to invest Kate into the Order of the Garter. He believes that she is “deserving” of it and would it generate plenty of positive headlines for the royals.
“I wanted the king to invest Kate into the Order of the Garter, but he hasn’t done it,” Burrell said. “I’m hoping that the king will invest Kate in the most noble order. I’m hoping he’s going to do that. If he does, it will make headlines. She deserves it. She’s our future queen. She’s a Princess of Wales. It’s time for her to become a Lady member of the Garter.”
