King Charles and his wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, have been through quite a bit in the past year. Last winter, Charles was diagnosed with cancer, and he has reportedly been undergoing treatment ever since. He has not revealed his cancer type, but the king has continued to fulfill royal duties amidst his treatment.

Not long ago, Camilla lost one of her longtime companions: Her dog named Beth, whom she had rescued years ago. But Charles and Camilla are proud to announce that they are the pet parents to a brand-new rescue pup.

Camilla Parker Bowles just adopted a new rescue dog

Charles and Camilla have been continuing royal duties ever since Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022. Charles’ coronation occurred in May 2023, and he and Camilla have maintained their appearances at royal engagements even through his treatments.

However, at home, the two like to unwind, and to them, the perfect household is one that involves pets. Camilla recently attended a royal engagement at the Beaney House of Art & Knowledge in Canterbury in late February, where she revealed a surprise. She was caught on camera announcing that she had just adopted a dog.

“I’ve just got a new puppy,” Camilla said in the video, which was posted to X. “She’s called Moley. [She] looks just like a mole,” Camilla said. The dog is a rescue, and she was only eight weeks old when Camilla took her home. The dog is from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, of which Camilla has been a longtime patron.

The royal family has always been dog-friendly

Moley might be the newest addition to the family, but the dog is certainly not the royal family’s first. Of course, Camilla had to put down her lovely rescue, Beth, in late 2024 after a tumor was discovered. But the royals have loved dogs for centuries, as most monarchs have always had a fur baby.

Queen Elizabeth II was a big fan of pups; she often had more than one corgi at a time. Prince William and Kate Middleton have a dog, too — a spaniel named Orla. Orla was a gift from Kate’s brother, James Middleton. And Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are dog lovers, too. Meghan recently shared on Instagram that she had to say goodbye to her longtime best friend, a beagle named Guy, in early 2025.

While Camilla will always have a special place for her pup Beth, she seems elated to have another new royal family member to dote on.
