King Charles Doesn’t Want to Hear Any ‘Criticism’ of Kate Middleton ‘Period,’ Author Says
King Charles III’s policy about Kate Middleton is reportedly short and simple: don’t criticize her. A royal author says the king, 75, who is undergoing treatment for his own cancer diagnosis, is determined fellow royals—and staff—not say anything unkind about his daughter-in-law amid her ongoing cancer treatment.
‘No criticism of Kate’ is the king’s policy
The king is laying down the law. Not literally, but as author Christopher Andersen told OK! Magazine, King Charles doesn’t want anyone inside the palace walls criticizing his “beloved” daughter-in-law.
The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. Since then, she and Prince William, 41, have focused on quality time as a family with their children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
“There are those inside and outside the Palace who have criticized Kate over the years [before her diagnosis],” Andersen told the publication.
Why exactly? “For supposedly not shouldering her share of the royal burden. For not going to as many ribbon cuttings, hospital openings, and plaque unveilings as the late Queen Elizabeth II, the King, or Princess Anne, for instance.”
“It has always been Kate’s choice to prioritize her children’s well-being over royal duties. In the past, Charles has remained silent about this and allowed the sniping from the sidelines to continue. But no more. Now, the King brooks no criticism of Kate—period.”
Anything ‘negative’ about Kate Middleton risks the ‘Riot Act’ from Charles
Speaking ill of Kate is a no-no for royals and palace staff. “Other royal family members and courtiers alike know that they risk being read the Riot Act by the King if they dare utter a negative syllable about Kate,” Andersen said.
As for her break from royal duties and opinions on when the 42-year-old should get back to work, that’s an off-limits topic too. “Charles has also made it clear that everyone should stand down in terms of when and how she returns to a full public schedule.”
Kate made her last official appearance at the royal family’s 2023 Christmas walk to church. On Jan. 16, 2024, she underwent abdominal surgery. Shortly after, King Charles entered the same hospital to undergo a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.
On Feb. 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles had been diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer.
Following drama surrounding an edited family photo and much speculation about her health, Kate announced her own cancer diagnosis on March 22, 2024.
King Charles is giving Kate whatever ‘she needs’ amid her ongoing cancer treatment
“Nobody understands more fully than King Charles just how difficult fighting cancer can be—the toll it takes emotionally and physically,” Andersen continued. To that end, the king has “made it clear that whatever Kate feels she needs, she gets.”
“Charles was moved to tears by Kate’s stunning video announcement that she has cancer,” the author said, noting that in the king’s eyes, she’s “brave” for doing so. “He also knows better than anyone that the future of the monarchy is, to a considerable extent, in her hands.”
Kate and William are raising George, Charlotte, and Louis at Adelaide Cottage, their home in Windsor, England.
“She is not only the wife of a future king but the mother of a future monarch,” the author explained. “Kate has also shown herself to be unswervingly loyal to the royal family and above reproach—things he can’t always say about other Windsors.”
