There was plenty of speculation after Queen Elizabeth II died and Charles became the king about what Prince Andrew‘s life in the royal family would look like going forward. Because the Duke of York has not been a working royal for years he was never a part of King Charles‘ slimmed-down monarchy and has no official role in the family at all anymore.

But Andrew was still enjoying plenty of royal perks including living at a sprawling 31-room mansion in Windsor and having his brother foot the bill for one important thing that has now been cut off.

Here’s what that is and what message it sends to Prince Harry.

What King Charles did to Prince Andrew has to do with Prince Harry

Andrew’s publicly-funded security was stopped after he stepped down from his royal duties and had a civil sexual assault lawsuit brought against him. Therefore, Prince Harry didn’t have an argument about any non-working royals being able to keep that protection from the Metropolitan Police. The Sussexes lost their royal protection just like Andrew did when they stepped down.

However, Harry could question why his father was still paying for his uncle’s 10-person private security team at Royal Lodge especially since Prince Harry thinks his father could help him out more than he has. Well, the monarch is no longer doing that.

According to a new report from The Sun, the king is laying off Andrew’s entire private security detail team at Royal Lodge as he did not renew their contracts which expire after the summer. The move is thought to be the last push to finally get the Duke of York out of the lavish residence he has refused to leave. But it also sends a message to Prince Harry that non-working royals are not getting favors these days when it comes to full-time security protection.

The king is said to be ‘frustrated’ that Harry is still fighting his government over security

Harry not having the royal protection he used to is one of the main factors in why the father and son still aren’t speaking and haven’t reconciled. The prince has made it clear he wants his protection back and has been fighting in court to get it reinstated even though he and Meghan quit their roles as working royals in 2020.

The king is said to be “frustrated” that Harry is continuing to fight the government over his security in the U.K. The duke’s friends say he wants his dad to intervene to try and get that automatic police protection back, but Charles won’t do that.

The Palace claims that the monarch can’t just butt in and try to use his influence over the Royal and VIP Executive Committee.

As the Daily Beast noted: “Buckingham Palace officials said that it would be ‘wholly inappropriate’ for the king to pull rank and attempt to influence the government committee, the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, which makes decisions about royals’ personal protection. They added that these decisions were now a matter for the courts, as Harry was litigating the matter.”
