King Charles Is Reportedly Getting Spiritual Advice on the Prince Harry Rift
King Charles III is leaning on his faith amid his ongoing rift with Prince Harry. The monarch has reportedly found it a “comfort and asset” as he navigates leading the British royal family. Ahead, why the king “has faith Harry could return.” Plus, why the father and son aren’t reportedly speaking.
King Charles ‘still loves Harry and wants him back’
An insider told the Daily Mail that King Charles isn’t against the idea of rekindling his “bond” with his youngest son, the Duke of Sussex. It’s all connected to the king’s faith. (He’s head of the Church of England.)
“Faith has always been a part of Charles’ life and something he’s explored,” the source said. “But since becoming King it is playing a more central role. That reliance on faith and quiet contemplation has become a comfort and asset to him and helps him cope with the role as he adapts to being King.”
As for where Harry fits in, the king’s ready to move forward. “Charles misses his son,” they said. “He still loves Harry and wants him back for personal reasons—regardless that he and Meghan [Markle] do not [want to] return to royal life.”
“Harry will always be Charles’s much-loved son,” the source added. “He has faith that Harry could return. He misses the bond they once had. And the door will always remain open to him and his family. He does not want years of discord and disharmony clouding his reign.”
King Charles is reportedly giving Harry the silent treatment
Things between Harry and King Charles seem to have only gotten worse since the rift began. Nearly two years since Harry & Meghan and Spare, the king is, per a People report, not talking to his son.
“Their communication,” according to the outlet, has “deteriorated” following a so-called “positive meeting” in February 2024. Harry’s calls and letters, those close to the soon-to-be 40-year-old claimed, go unanswered.
“He gets ‘unavailable right now,’” a friend of Harry’s said. “His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out about the King’s health, but those calls go unanswered too.”
The breakdown in communication stems from Harry’s legal battle to get his U.K. security detail back. (He lost it after moving stateside.) He thinks his father can help get the situation resolved, “Harry is frightened and feels the only person who can do anything about it is his father,” a source said. Meanwhile, the king—and palace aides—see it as a matter for the government.
He hasn’t seen Harry since February
King Charles has seen Harry once this year. In February 2024, following Buckingham Palace’s announcement of the monarch’s cancer diagnosis, Harry flew from California to London, England.
There, he met with his father very briefly for what was, as previously mentioned, a “positive meeting.” Reports at the time clocked the visit at under 45 minutes before the king and Queen Camilla left for the countryside.
Since 2020, in-person contact between the father and son has been practically non-existent. In 2023, Harry attended his dad’s coronation ceremony. A year earlier, in 2022, they were both seen at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral after briefly reuniting during Platinum Jubilee Weekend a few months earlier.
