King Charles Says He Is ‘Doing Well’ After Cancer Treatment While Speaking at Royal Engagement
King Charles is back to full-time royal duties after taking the first part of the year off while he underwent cancer treatment. The king has never disclosed what type of cancer he was diagnosed with or what stage it was, but he has seemingly made a full recovery. Although he never fully stopped working, he did stop pubic-facing royal duties for quite a while.
Charles recently appeared at the United Kingdom’s commemoration event for D-Day, which was held at Ver-sur-Mer in Normandy, France, where he briefly spoke about his cancer treatment.
King Charles says he is ‘doing well’ after undergoing cancer treatment
Charles has kept extremely quiet about his illness; the royals are not known to say much about their health. However, he did reveal at the time of his diagnosis that he would be undergoing treatment, and there were a number of times when he was seen in the back of a car going to and from his home, presumably for said treatments.
By May, Charles had returned to royal duties, and he continues to do well. During a recent appearance at a D-Day ceremony in Normandy, Charles revealed that things are good. Ronald Hendrey, a veteran who sat near Charles during the event, told Express that Charles was “nice” to him.
“He was very nice, he listened to what I was saying and took it in. I asked him how he was doing, he told me he is doing well,” Hendrey told the outlet.
The event at Normandy held specific significance not only for what it was commemorating but also because it was Charles’ first time traveling out of the UK since being diagnosed with cancer. It was milestone moment for the king and a testament to his good health.
The royal family has gone through a number of struggles in recent years
Things in any family aren’t always perfect, but it seems that year after year (in recent years) the royals have been hit with difficulties. In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the family, and tension has remained ever since. The royals lost Prince Philip in 2021 and Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. While things were smooth enough in 2023, 2024 saw cancer diagnoses for both Charles and his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.
Through it all, the royals continue to show up, including Prince William, who has taken on as many royal duties as possible while Kate takes time away from the spotlight. Camilla Parker Bowles attended royal engagements too, as did Charles’ siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, along with their spouses. It’s unclear when Kate might return to the royal spotlight, but for now, the royals are all pulling their weight when it comes to attending royal engagements.
