King Charles Is Spending His Birthday in the Most on-Brand Way
King Charles III is staying true to himself on his birthday. When the British royal family’s leader turns a year older, he’ll celebrate by—drumroll, please—working. He is, after all, known to be a workaholic. Ahead, details on how King Charles is spending his birthday with a cause close to his heart.
The king turns 76 on Nov. 14, 2024
Mark the calendar for Nov. 14, 2024. That’s when King Charles turns 76. Although he already celebrated his “official” birthday in June 2024. Trooping the Colour is the annual parade held for the sovereign. It includes a parade of royals in carriages, a flyover by the British military, and royals waving to crowds from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
King Charles is opening Coronation Food hubs on his birthday
The king’s spending his birthday on a project close to his heart. On the day he turns 76, King Charles will open the first two Coronation Food hubs, one in-person and the other virtually, per Express. The goal is to give food to those in need via charities such as FareShare and the Felix Project while reducing food waste.
It combines two of the king’s longtime passions: food and the environment. His stepson, Tom Parker Bowles, even called him a “true food hero” in his 2024 cookbook, writing: “There is no man who knows more about food and farming, from the best of British cheeses, through rare breeds of sheep and cow, to heritage varieties of plum, apple and pear, than the King (via Yahoo).”
To mark the opening of the facilities as well as the king’s birthday, the Coronation Food hub he visits will host a “surplus food festival.” It will showcase meals made from food that would’ve gone to waste. (Here’s hoping he’s presented with a cake or cookie to celebrate the milestone.)
King Charles will also meet with representatives from community groups, schools, and food banks a year after unveiling the initiative when he turned 75 (via Vanity Fair).
As for how the king’s celebrating privately, Buckingham Palace hasn’t revealed any details. However, in 2024, he marked his birthday privately at Clarence House in London, England, his longtime residence. So, perhaps he may do something similar? Or King Charles might take it easy and celebrate quietly with Queen Camilla due to his ongoing cancer treatment as is expected for Christmas.
What King Charles wants for his birthday
What the king wants for his birthday can’t be bought—for his sons, Prince William, 42, and Prince Harry, 40, to reconcile. A source previously claimed in a report for Express that King Charles wants “peace” within the royal family’s ranks.
“King Charles wants nothing more than peace to be restored in his family,” the source said. “He wants to draw a line under their past feuds and for Prince William and Prince Harry to get along. And what better timing than his birthday to bring them together.”
Since going “through an awful lot since becoming king”—the ongoing Harry drama and cancer, just to name a few—King Charles wants to spend time with his family. “Now he wants to make memories with his wife, sons, and grandchildren,” the insider said. “This is what he will treasure the most, especially as his milestone birthday approaches.”
