King Charles Twins With Princess Charlotte in Matching Friendship Bracelets
Princess Charlotte has King Charles wrapped around her finger, or wrist, as the two twin in matching friendship bracelets. The king has worn his at several key royal events, while Charlotte showed off hers at Wimbledon.
Princess Charlotte and King Charles are not only family; they’re besties
During an appearance at Wimbledon, Princess Charlotte was seen wearing two friendship bracelets together. The young royal accompanied her mother, Kate Middleton, to the event. It was the second time the Princess of Wales was spotted at a public event since she revealed a cancer diagnosis in March 2024.
Charlotte showed off one of the hottest accessories for teens and tweens as she cheered on the players from the royal box. The bracelets hung from her right wrist.
Charles wore a bracelet on the same wrist, similar to his granddaughter, during two recent royal events: a trip to Wales with Camilla Parker Bowles and a two-day stay in the Channel Islands of Jersey and Guernsey on July 15 and 16.
Charlotte is of the age bracket where these types of transactions are commonplace. However, per The Guardian, “Some sources suggest they can be traced back to the Indigenous communities of Central and South America.”
The description continued, “Macrame friendship bracelets became common among hippies in the 1970s. In the 90s and early 2000s, it was popular for schoolchildren to use ‘scoubidou’ to create bracelets in various knotted patterns, traded across the playground.”
How close are King Charles and Princess Charlotte?
King Charles reportedly has a very close relationship with his grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The trio are the children of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Per Yahoo! News UK, King Charles and three of his five grandchildren have a close relationship. The documentary The Fab Five: The King’s Grandchildren revealed that George, Charlotte, and Louis call Charles Grandpa Wales. The documentary also touched on how Charles continues to foster a good relationship with the trio.
“I think King Charles is very keen that his grandchildren don’t make the mistakes that I think he feels he made, particularly when it came to matters of the heart,” Professor Kaul, Professor of Modern History at the University of St Andrews, said during the episode.
Kaul continued, “What I think he wants to do is try and help these young grandchildren grow up in as normal a way as possible. And create more fully rounded human beings who are unafraid of their emotions. And who are able to have the confidence to marry whom they want. Also to have a happy, successful, and fulfilled personal life.”
Why is it significant that King Charles and Princess Charlotte wear friendship bracelets?
To Princess Charlotte, the significance of a friendship bracelet is a symbol of trust and connection. Friendship bracelets are to be given to and worn by a person who means a lot to the gifter.
Typically, the accessories are handmade items created by weaving pieces of colored string together. This makes them not only unique but even more special due to the time spent creating them.
Therefore, it is significant that Charles and Charlotte wear these matching accessories to show their bond with one another. Charles continuing to wear his bracelet demonstrates how highly he thinks of Charlotte’s gift.
Friendship bracelets have become popular again, thanks to singer/songwriter Taylor Swift, who references the accessory in a line of a song on her 2022 album Midnights. She wrote, “So, make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it.” The singer recently met with Charlotte, her brother Prince George and their father, Prince William, during her Eras Tour stop in London.
It has yet to be determined if Princess Charlotte handmade the bracelets she and King Charles wear.
