‘Kirby and the Forgotten Land’ Release Date, Trailer, Pre-Orders, and Everything We Know
Everyone’s favorite pink and round hero is back and better than ever. Nintendo has revealed more details about Kirby and the Forgotten Land, the highly-anticipated 3D open-world adventure coming soon to Nintendo Switch. Thankfully, the game will be here much sooner than fans might have expected. Here’s everything we know about Kirby and the Forgotten Land, including its release date, trailer, pre-order information, and more.
What is the newest Kirby game about?
Put simply, Kirby and the Forgotten Land looks a lot like Kirby’s version of Super Mario Odyssey. According to a Nintendo press release on Jan. 12, the platformer game follows Kirby through an “unknown land” where “Waddle Dees are being kidnapped in droves by the Beast Pack.”
“To rescue the Waddle Dees, Kirby heads out on a journey with the curious Elfilin, whom he meets in the new world,” the press release continued.
As players embark on Kirby’s adventure, they can use a variety of abilities to take down enemies and rescue Waddle Dees. Additionally, players can explore Waddle Dee Town, which changes with every rescued Waddle Dee. The town features shops, helpful NPCs, and mini-games, including a fast-paced café game.
‘Kirby and the Forgotten Land’ release date
Nintendo first announced Kirby and the Forgotten Land with a reveal trailer during the September Nintendo Direct. In the video, Kirby traversed an abandoned, overgrown city on an island. He used his classic inhale and float abilities, fought enemies, and helped Waddle Dees escape from captivity. At the end of the video, Nintendo offered a “spring 2022” release window.
Many fans expected the Kirby and the Forgotten Land release date to arrive in the late spring months, like April or May, but as it turns out, we’re much closer to release. A second trailer (seen below), shared on Jan. 12, revealed that Kirby and the Forgotten Land would arrive exclusively on Nintendo Switch on March 25, 2022.
A new ‘Kirby and the Forgotten Land’ trailer showcases new copy abilities
In addition to the date, Nintendo packed the new trailer with glimpses of Kirby’s copy abilities. The hero can gain 11 special powers, including two new abilities. The first is Drill, which allows Kirby to drill himself underground and pop up beneath enemies to kill them. Meanwhile, the Ranger ability gives Kirby a weapon that can fire off stars.
Here’s the complete list of Kirby’s copy abilities:
- Drill
- Ranger
- Crash
- Tornado
- Hammer
- Needle

The trailer also showcased Kirby and the Forgotten Land‘s multiplayer mode. Up to two people can play together via couch co-op.
