The downfall of Kody Brown and Meri Brown’s marriage has been well-documented in Sister Wives. While their separation was many years in the making, they are just getting honest about their feelings. At the very least, Meri Brown is. Kody Brown still appears to be rewriting his history with his first wife. In a recent episode, the former polygamist claims his marriage to Meri was never right because of the “baggage” she brought into their union. No one believes that.

Kody Brown lost three of his four wives in 18 months. Those breakups haven’t triggered much introspection for the former polygamist, though. Kody has yet to take responsibility for the end of his unions. He absolutely refuses to admit he did anything wrong when it comes to the end of his marriage to his first wife, Meri Brown. In fact, in a recent Sister Wives episode, Kody claimed he and Meri’s marriage wasn’t right from the start because she brought too much “baggage” into their relationship.
Kody failed to elaborate on what that “baggage” might have been. Viewers can’t imagine it either, as Meri and Kody married after a short courtship, all while she was still a teenager. Meri doesn’t appear to have an answer either, and fans suspect the only “baggage” the mother of one has been carrying all these years is Kody. After all, Meri looks healthier and happier than ever now that she’s left Kody and polygamy behind.

While Kody Brown wants to blame Meri Brown’s early “baggage” for their marriage’s failure, almost no one who has watched the controversial reality TV series believes that. Many viewers argue that Kody was the most in love with Meri during the show’s first two seasons. She only fell out of favor with Kody around the time Robyn welcomed her first biological child with Kody.
Things seemed to sour after Kody asked Meri for a legal divorce, which allowed him to legally marry Robyn in 2015. Following the divorce, Meri engaged in an emotional affair, only to later find out the person she was speaking to was a catfish. Kody might argue that he never loved Meri, but he seemed to love her deeply. Perhaps the love he once felt for her is the reason for his disdain now. After all, she was caught “cheating” by his standards, and it seems he never forgave her for that. Still, it’s hard to fault Meri.
