Christine Brown didn’t mince words when she was asked how she’d describe her ex-husband Kody Brown. The Sister Wives star called her former partner and the father of her six children a “deadbeat dad” during a recent interview.

Christine Brown from ‘Sister Wives’ Has No Interest in Getting Spiritual Divorce From Kody Brown

Recently, Christine and her fellow former sister wife Janelle Brown were guests on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live (via Realitea Squad). The host asked both women to sum up Kody in three words.

“Just three?” Christine replied. “Deadbeat. Dad … Deadbeat dad and oblivious.”

Christine – who also referred to her former husband as “a relationship coward” – is currently suing Kody for custody of their youngest daughter, Truely, 14. Kody is not named as Truely’s father on her birth certificate, but Christine asked the court to recognize his paternity in a lawsuit she filed in September 2024. She also requested child support and a domestic relations injunction, which would prohibit both parties from harassing the other and making decisions about their daughter without the other parent’s approval, Us Weekly reported.

Christine walked away from her spiritual marriage to Kody in November 2021. The former couple also share five adult children. After the split, she moved with her daughter from Flagstaff, Ariz. to Utah.

“When I lived in Flagstaff, I firmly believed that moving to Utah was the best choice for me and for Truely,” Christine explained during an episode of Sister Wives that aired in October 2023. “I knew that I was taking Truely away from her dad. I felt like the best way to preserve Truely’s relationship with Kody was to move her away from him.”

Janelle Brown says the ‘Sister Wives’ star is ‘charismatic’ but ‘selfish’

Janelle, who was also previously married to Kody, was also critical of her ex, though somewhat less scathing. She agreed with Christine that Kody was oblivious. She also described him as “selfish” and “charismatic.”

“Like, he seems to be sort of like, I don’t know, the reality is bewildering to him,” Janelle, who ended her relationship with Kody in December 2022, said. Janelle pointed to his clueless reaction when another one of his wives, Meri Brown, chose to request a “spiritual release” from their church.

“He was kind of a little bit bewildered that they had not been very nice to him when they called him,” she said.

Meri was granted her release on the grounds that Kody had abandoned her, according to Janelle. “I don’t think they were out of line in any way,” she said. “I was actually so proud of Meri, because Meri is loyal to a fault. To a fault. Almost to her detriment. And I was just really proud of her for being like, ‘OK, I need to take this final step.’

As a parent, Kody had often urged his children to be aware of their actions, Janelle added. But he seemed unable to follow that same advice.

“It’s so funny because part of me is like, ‘Are you aware of how you act and how you think?’” she said. “And sometimes I wonder, is he OK?”

New episodes of Sister Wives air Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
