Kris Jenner Told Oprah Kim Kardashian’s 72-Day Marriage to Kris Humphries Was ‘One of the Hardest Times’ of Her Life
Kim Kardashian West is about to divorce her husband Kanye West. The two have been together for almost a decade, which is longer than either of Kim’s previous two marriages lasted. Her shortest union was famously only 72 days long.
In 2011, Kim married Kris Humphries, an NBA star. Less than 3 months after the wedding, Kim filed for divorce. Although the marriage was effectively over when she filed, the couple wouldn’t be officially divorced until 2013, when the settlement was reached. Kim’s mom Kris Jenner stood by her side throughout the ordeal.
Shortly after Kim filed for divorce, Jenner spoke to Oprah, and told her that those 72 days were some of the hardest of her life.

During their interview, Oprah pointed out what a loving mother Jenner is. Oprah then went on to ask Kris how she felt about Kim becoming a “spectacle” after her 72 day marriage to Humphries. Jenner said it was “one of the hardest times” in her life. She called Kim a hopeless romantic, and suggested that Kim’s longing for love is what led her to get married when she wasn’t sure about the relationship.
That kind of romantic attitude may be what led Kanye and Kim to stay together despite some very public issues. Kanye began their relationship by insisting Kim totally change her style. He reportedly went to her house and threw out most of her clothes.
Later, shortly before their fourth child was born by surrogate, Kanye berated Kim for a tight dress in front of the Keeping Up with the Kardashian cameras. Kim’s longing for romance, love, and a happy family may have led her to put up with behavior that wasn’t conducive to a healthy relationship.

Jenner told Oprah that she was “concerned” about Kim’s future with Humphries. She claimed that she spoke to her daughter shortly before the wedding, telling her to call it off if Kim had doubts. She didn’t do it in front of the Keeping Up with the Kardashians film crew.
Jenner had a real heart-to-heart with Kim. According to Jenner, Kim was deeply in love with Humphries. Unfortunately, love isn’t the only ingredient to a happy, healthy marriage.
Although fans often criticize Jenner for how she treats her children, she does know them very well. Jenner told Oprah that she could tell right away that Kim’s marriage was in trouble, and it hurt her to hear people say cruel things about Kim.
Kris Jenner told Kim Kardashian to follow her heart
When Kim went to her mother and told her she was planning on getting a divorce, Jenner was supportive. “My advice to her was you have to follow your heart.” Jenner didn’t want her daughter suffering to keep up appearances.
Humphries argued in their divorce proceedings that Kim only married him for publicity. The reason she divorced him so quickly was shock value alone, according to Humphries. But Jenner is adamant that Kim only had the best intentions going into her marriage. She claims Kim was devastated by the divorce.
However, when she saw how deeply unhappy Kim was in the marriage, she recommended her daughter end the relationship sooner rather than later. Jenner didn’t see any point to Kim giving the relationship another shot.
Although some people may say Kim created the Humphries drama for her fans, Jenner claims that Kim felt bad for letting her fans down. She told Oprah that Kim is very dedicated to her fans, and felt that her short marriage would be a disappointment to them.
