We never thought we’d see the day, but after 13-years and 20 seasons, the KarJenners are finally saying goodbye to television. The Kardashians were virtually unknown when their hit TV series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians debuted back in 2007, but from there, they exploded.

Kim Kardashian West has become perhaps one of the most talked-about women on the planet. Though the beginning seasons of KUWTK focused on her relationships and obsession with fame, as of late, the mom of four has become a full-fledged businesswoman.

Her siblings have all followed suit with various career paths that will now enable them to walk away from the show forever. However, if you look closely, it seems like the Kardashians destroyed their own show.

This is why ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ is ending in 2021

Even amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the KarJenners have managed to make headlines. Kardashian West’s marital woes with her husband, Kanye West have been front and center, Kylie Jenner’s lack of social distancing has been a topic of discussion, and Khloé Kardashian rekindling her romance with Tristan Thompson has certainly raised eyebrows.

Therefore, fans were stunned by the Skims founder’s shocking announcement. On Sept. 8. she revealed KUWTK is ending Instagram,

It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Our last season will air early next year in 2021. Without Keeping Up with The Kardashians, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has watched and supported me and my family these past 14 incredible years. This show made us who we are and I will be forever in debt to everyone who played a role in shaping our careers and changing our lives forever.

‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ has been declining since 2013

Though ratings for KUWTK have been declining for years, people were stunned by Kardashian West announcements. Rumor has it that both she and Kylie Jenner were simply over it. However, Buzzfeed says that show has been declining since 2013 when Kris and Caitlyn Jenner divorced. They reported,

The first splinter in this success came with Kris and Caitlyn Jenner’s split in 2013. Their relationship had been at the heart of KUWTK from the very first episode, and removing it threw the show into flux.

When Caitlyn announced her transition, the KarJenners lost control of the narrative and they didn’t regain it especially amid Kylie’s secret pregnancy and the news cycle moving months ahead of the series.

This is how the KarJenners destroyed their own show

However, the final crack in KUWTK came in 2017 when Kourtney Kardashian and Kardashian West’s first vicious fight over a Christmas Card shattered the illusion of the family’s bond. Buzzfeed News explains,

The shocking footage showed KUWTK coming apart at the seams. For the first time, the show broke the fourth wall and exposed the reality of the sisters’ relationship. Kourtney sobbing that she wished to be free from filming with a “c*nt like Kim,” her implication that fame had morphed her family into “disgusting” humans with whom she had to fake relationships, and Kim’s contemptuous response to each comment proved how far they’d devolved from the easily resolved disputes that punctuated earlier seasons, and into disdain.

It’s true that the KaJenners built their empire on the strength of KUWTK, but even the most infamous reality family has to be exhausted from living their lives on display.
