Why La La Anthony Counts Hanging out With Her Son, Kiyan, as ‘Me Time’
La La Anthony often has a new project she’s developing. Summer 2021 proves to be no different, as the actor, TV personality, and businesswoman prepares for a new role in the horror film, JuJu. Additionally, La La returned to The Chi in May 2021 and teamed up with Special K and Black Girls Run! for its first virtual 5K race. Although she has several summer projects, La La told Showbiz Cheat Sheet how she prioritizes spending time with her and Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan Anthony, 14.

Since becoming famous for her VJ role on TRL, La La has had many gigs in her career. In 2014, the actor landed a recurring role as LaKeisha Grant in Power. La La took on more parts during Power, including BH90210, Star, and The Freak Brothers, per IMDb. Additionally, she launched a Facebook Watch show called Reclaim Your Life last year.
La La explains to Showbiz that spending time alone is a luxury due to her hectic schedule. However, she includes Kiyan in her self-care routine when necessary.
“I definitely will take some time in the morning, even if it’s just, you know, no phone or anything for a couple of minutes and just reflects on the day or what I want to accomplish that day,” she shares with Showbiz. “Just kind of give myself a pep talk going into the day and waking up with gratitude and all those things you try to, you know, remind yourself every day. So that’s kind of what I do. But ‘me time’ for me is also, you know, spending time with Kiyan because it makes me so happy to be with him and do things that he wants to do. I feel like I’m fulfilling my ‘me time’ as well because I’m spending time with him. Which brings me the most joy and makes me the most happy.”

La La also says she and Kiyan are going to several different cities for the 14-year-old high schooler’s basketball career. In addition to her plans of “being outside” and “enjoying music” with her other loved ones, La La tells Showbiz she and Kiyan will spend most of their summer on the road.
“He’s really heavy in basketball,” she said of her child. “So there’s tons of basketball games, a lot of traveling with the team, there’s a tournament coming up in Florida. So we’ll be moving around a lot. The summers are definitely heavy, heavy, you know, basketball-based and stuff. So I’ll be doing that. And then he’s going to high school in the fall. So just getting prepared to have a high schooler in my house and getting it ready for that is still kind of like, I’m like wrapping my mind around that. It’s kind of crazy.”
