Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani in ‘House of Gucci’
House of Gucci is a dramatic film directed by the renowned Ridley Scott, a man known for powerful epics such as Gladiator. House of Gucci tells the story of the ambitious Patrizia Reggiani and how she married the head of the Gucci fashion empire, Maurizio Gucci. The film follows their relationship from the start to its breakdown, detailing how the fierce and determined Patrizia eventually decides that Maurizio himself must go.
Based on a true story, House of Gucci stars Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani and Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci. Lady Gaga, who is best known to movie fans for her starring role in the 2018 film A Star Is Born, is already earning acclaim from critics even though the film isn’t set for theatrical release until November 24.
What did Lady Gaga eat to prepare her figure for her ‘House of Gucci’ role?
Lady Gaga dove headfirst into her role as Patrizia. As reported by Insider, Lady Gaga even decided to put on a bit of weight in order to perfectly portray Patrizia’s elegantly rounded figure. Rather than chowing down on ice cream and sweets, Lady Gaga was able to easily accent her figure by eating a few more portions of pasta and bread.
Lady Gaga opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about the process of gaining a bit more weight, admitting “My mother and father met me as Patrizia a couple times. And they were mostly laughing because my family gets a kick out of my love of artistry.” Although there was much that Lady Gaga enjoyed about the process of becoming Patrizia, she discovered that there were some distinct challenges to burying herself entirely into a different identity.
Lady Gaga lived with an Italian accent for close to a year in preparation for ‘House of Gucci’
In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lady Gaga revealed that she lived with an Italian accent for nine months, even when she wasn’t actively shooting House of Gucci. “There’s a downside to committing yourself to a role in that way because it’s an adjustment for everybody around you. Suddenly, you’re not talking to Stefani anymore with an accent. You’re talking to Patrizia Gucci,” Lady Gaga admitted.
The actress has also opened up about the “psychological trauma” that she experienced after living as another person for such a long period of time. “I was either in my hotel room, living and speaking as Reggiani, or I was on set, living and speaking as her. I remember I went out into Italy one day with a hat on to take a walk. I hadn’t taken a walk in about two months and I panicked,” Lady Gaga said in a recent interview. Ultimately, Lady Gaga’s dedication to her role is already earning her awards show buzz – and it is very possible that the star will go on to score an Academy Award thanks to her hard work.
