While juggling a successful career in basketball, Odom admitted he had multiple personal battles. He wrote in his memoir, Darkness to Light, that he is a “sex addict.” According to Odom, he has had sex with “over 2,000 women” and paid for his past encounters.
“I am a sex addict,” Odom wrote. “I have been obsessed with sex for as long as I can remember. There were too many strippers to count. It wasn’t a big deal, but often I would pay them. I never thought less of them.”

While Odom and Kardashian seemed like their marriage was on track, Odom admitted to cheating on Kardashian in 2017. The athlete wrote an essay for The Players’ Tribune and talked about the “darkest” moment in his marriage, per People. In the article, Odom said Kardashian caught him doing cocaine with another woman in a motel room.
“I was in a motel room, getting high with this chick, and my wife (at the time) walked in,” Odom said. “That probably was like rock bottom. First of all, I was in a motel. A motel. I’m a millionaire. I’d made it out of Jamaica, Queens, and won two NBA titles. And I’m in a motel, with some random person, doing coke. But I just wanted to get high with this girl, and I had no other place to go. I couldn’t take her home. You know, I was being a scumbag. Nothing else I got for that. No excuses. No bullsh*t. That’s just the truth.”

Kardashian filed for divorce from Odom after four years of marriage. The Revenge Body star later shared on Keeping Up With the Kardashians that Odom’s infidelity was a factor in their divorce. Additionally, Kardashian admitted that she kept Odom’s cheating and substance misuse away from her family.
Two years after Kardashian intended to divorce Odom, he faced a health scare. Employees at The Love Ranch in Nevada found Odom unconscious after he spent several days there. According to USA Today, Odom had cocaine and sexual enhancement drugs in his system when he was unresponsive.
Odom detailed how he felt when he woke up from his coma. He shared that he was stunned to see Kardashian in the hospital when he gained consciousness.
“My ex-wife was there in the room with me,” Odom recalled. “After all the sh*t I had done, I was surprised to see her. Honestly, that’s when I knew that I was probably in bad shape.”
