Ellen DeGeneres is leaving her show after 19 seasons on the air

DeGeneres announced that she would be leaving The Ellen DeGeneres Show as host after the show’s 19th season, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore,” DeGeneres told the outlet.

DeGeneres faced public backlash when news spread that the work environment at The Ellen DeGeneres Show was less than pleasant. Her decision to step down came around a year after the accusations.

Lance Bass said if he would replace Ellen DeGeneres as host

Bass rose to fame while being part of the boy group NSYNC in the 1990s and early 2000s. He made headlines when he came out as gay in 2006. Since the hosting gig for The Ellen DeGeneres Show might be available, Bass weighed in on whether he would accept the role.

“We have been wanting to do that for 20 years,” he told On the List with Brett Gursky on the Bleav Podcast Network. “I’ve always wanted to be that kind of talk show host. We started really kind of focusing on that right after NSYNC was ending. I was like, ‘You know what, I would love to parlay into talk show host. I love talking.'”

“And that was right when Ellen was just starting her show,” he continued. “‘Oh, that’s exactly the type of show I want to do.’ Now with Ellen leaving, call me. Call me, I’ll replace Ellen.”

Now, Bass is working on Unicorn Hunters, a Shark Tank-esque reality show looking for the next billion dollar business.

“This is the very first show that democratizes the fundraise and so you at home watching Unicorn Hunters right there on unicornhunters.com, you can become one of the Unicorn Hunters,” Bass said. “For so many years, LGBTQ, women, People of Color, they’ve all been disenfranchised when it comes to investments, so this really does even out the playing field and everyone is welcome to the table.”
