Lauren London Opens Up About Her First Date with Nipsey Hussle
Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London were a notoriously private couple. During their nearly six-year relationship, the duo hardly ever spoke to the press about their relationship and their personal life. But sometimes, they would offer rare glimpses into their loving romance through photos and social media posts.
Although Hussle passed away earlier in 2019, London has kept his memory alive by sharing their most special stories. Most recently, she gave a sweet interview in which she reflected on how they met and where their first date happened.
How did Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London meet?
Hussle and London first came into contact via social media when the ATL actress reached out to purchase several copies of his Crenshaw mixtape (2013). After London received the mixtapes, she and Hussle started following each other online. Noticing their potential chemistry, mutual friends pushed them to pursue each other more seriously.
“We met through a mutual friend, like, on the phone. Because we’re both from L.A., we had a lot of friends in common,” London told GQ in an interview published on Dec. 2. “I had a couple of homegirls that had hung out with him and would come back to me like, ‘Oh, my God! You would really like Nip! He seems like your type!'”
She continued, “I wasn’t dating anybody at the time, or doing any of that. We met because I wanted to pick up a box of clothes he offered me after I bought a couple [copies of] Crenshaw. I pulled up to his shop on Crenshaw and Slauson, and he was like, ‘You want to hang out?'”
Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London’s first date happened the same day
London accepted Hussle’s invitation to hang out. She told GQ that they drove around Los Angeles, talking.
“To my surprise he knew my aunt, so we pull up to my aunt’s house to eat,” London continued. “He had called her. Later that night we drove down [Pacific Coast Highway] and talked for hours. I would consider that our first date.”
“Before that, we had talked on the phone for like eight hours, but [this] was the first time we were face-to-face,” she added. “We started kicking it every day for weeks, and then I realized that we never went to dinner and had, like, a proper first date. From there, it was just…easy. It felt so natural for us to be in each other’s lives.”
London said that they were “foodies” who loved to eat at local shops. They would also do spur-of-the-moment things.
“Nip was very spontaneous,” she continued. “He would be like, ‘Boog, let’s go out of town.’ And I’d go with him and no luggage. He was very fun in that way. He loved having fun. We’d wake up in the morning, and he’d be like, ‘Bet you won’t get on a roller coaster.’ We would literally just wash our faces, brush our teeth, put on sweats, and go to Magic Mountain, randomly, to get on a roller coaster and start the day.”
The end of Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London’s relationship
Their romance came to an end on March 31, 2019 when Hussle suffered fatal gunshot wounds at his store, The Marathon Clothing. He had been at the store to give an old friend some free gear when a man approached and fired multiple shots, killing Hussle and injuring two others. The man was later arrested and is awaiting trial.
Hussle is survived by his mother, father, siblings, and two children. He and London share a son, Kross, who was born in 2016. Hussle also an 11-year-old daughter, Emani, from a previous relationship.
