‘Law & Order: SVU’: Fans React to the Promo Trailer Teasing Benson and Stabler’s Reunion: ‘Freaking Chills’
Fans of Law & Order: SVU have been waiting for a certain moment for years. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) were partners for over a decade before Stabler left. It was a hard pill to swallow and one that was especially hard for Benson, who never received a proper goodbye from someone who was once so close to her.
However, the reunion between the two former partners is happening in less than a month, and there’s a promo trailer teasing the moment on SVU. What are fans saying about it?
Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler were partners on ‘Law & Order: SVU’
When SVU began, fans became attached to the epic partnership between Benson and Stabler, a pair of detectives who repeatedly get justice for victims of heinous crimes. They worked well together and were extremely close. Their chemistry was palpable, but it didn’t last.
Why is Elliot Stabler not on SVU anymore? Before season 13, Meloni left because of a contract dispute. His character, Stabler, never said goodbye to his longtime partner, and she took it hard. Ever since that fateful moment, fans have been wondering if the two would ever reunite. However, they will be coming back together on April 1.
Christopher Meloni is getting his own ‘Law & Order’ spinoff
Meloni is getting his own Law & Order spinoff called Law & Order: Organized Crime. It will be nice to see Stabler in a large capacity after so many years away. Meloni returns as Stabler “after a devastating personal loss,” according to NBC.
Here is the rest of the official description: “However, the city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he’s been away, and he must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning. Stabler will aim to find absolution and rebuild his life while leading an elite new task force that is taking apart the city’s most powerful crime syndicates one by one.”
When the news broke, fans were immediately wondering if a reunion between Benson and Stabler would be on the horizon, and they’re right.
Benson and Stabler’s reunion is coming
Stabler was going to appear in the premiere episode of season 22 of SVU ahead of the premiere of the new series, but the premiere was pushed back and delayed. However, the moment is coming in less than a month. Organized Crime will premiere on Thursday, April 1 at 10 p.m. EST. But before the premiere, there will be a crossover that starts on SVU.
Special Victims Unit will premiere a new episode at 9 p.m. EST, which will hold the first portion of the crossover event between the two series and feature Benson and Stabler’s reunion. Then in the following hour, Organized Crime will feature a double dose of crossover bliss with the former partners in its premiere event.
There’s a promo trailer teasing Benson and Stabler’s reunion in Season 22, Episode 9
As can be expected, fans are thrilled for the reunion between Benson and Stabler. There’s a new promo trailer teasing the epic moment, although we don’t actually get to see the two former partners together just yet. However, the tease is pretty epic all the same.
“Are you and Stabler good partners?” someone asks Benson in the trailer with the year 2011 displayed, the same year Stabler left.
“We’ve worked together a long time,” Benson says from the past. “I can anticipate what he’s thinking, what’s he’s going to do. Yeah, we have a great rapport.” During the conversation, viewers get to see Benson talking, as well as shots of Stabler and Benson together and Stabler by himself.
Then, we see the moment Benson learns that Stabler left. “Elliot put his papers in,” Captain Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) tells her. “There was nothing I could do.” Benson is truly upset over the news.
During the short clip, Benson is back in the present-day and on a case when she hears her name being called. “Liv,” Stabler says, as Benson turns around.
“Elliot,” Benson says looking surprised and shocked.
