‘Law & Order: SVU’: Fans Weigh in on the Newest Officer of the Squad
Law & Order: SVU is full of unique characters, and officer Kat is definitely one of them. She’s played by Jamie Gray Hyder as the very capable Officer Katriona “Kat” Azar Tamin. So what do fans of the hit series think of the squad’s newest officer? Read on to find out.
Fans weigh in on ‘SVU’s’ newest officer
Viewers of SVU aren’t exactly warming up to Kat right away. Numerous people on Reddit don’t seem to like the character, at least not so far. She’s described as “annoying” many times and some fans think they know why.
“Listen, I’ve said this countless times, I think Kat is highly annoying and unlikeable,” a Reddit user admitted.
Other Reddit users agree, but think she will change over the course of the show. “She is kind of annoying but Carisi was down-right obnoxious when he first came on and look at him now – he’s one of the most likable characters. She’s going to mature in time,” another user chimed in.
A fan thinks they have it figured out that the series starts new characters off this way on purpose. It could all be part of the grander scheme. “I think they start new characters off as being super obnoxious and unlikable because it’s easier to reign in that sort of huge personality versus bringing in someone quiet and forgettable that blends into the background and has to be pushed into action,” they explained.
Kat reminds fans of Carisi and Amaro
One fan thinks Kat just needs to adjust to being in a new unit. She will mellow out as time goes on, just like others have done before her.
“Honestly, she reminds me of Carisi when he started out. And Nick, and, honestly, so many characters start out like she is. They just need to make sure she adjusts to being a detective in SVU,” a Reddit user said.
Some viewers just don’t seem to like Kat or the actress that plays her at all. “Awful actress. That’s what bothers me about her character. She is acting too hard. Not natural,” the user wrote.
Although the hate is strong, some fans do like Det. Kat
Even though there’s a lot of hate on Reddit for Kat, some fans do seem to like her. One viewer doesn’t even understand why Benson and the other detectives get upset with her for making mistakes when they all make mistakes.
“I like her so far, I don’t understand why Benson and Rollins are so annoyed at her being so gung-ho and making mistakes when they both have been doing that for years,” the Reddit user wrote. “At the end of the day she came from another department, probably, like everyone, thinks those actions are completely suitable across the board.”
There are a lot of SVU fans on Reddit that don’t seem to love the squad’s newest officer. Only time will tell if viewers will ever fully warm up to Kat.
