Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay and NCIS star Mark Harmon lead a cast of talented actors each week on their long-running shows. Which leading actor has the higher net worth?
Mariska Hargitay’s movies and TV shows
Hargitay made her acting debut in the 1984 movie Ghoulies, in which she played the character Donna. The following year, she became a series regular in the drama Downtown. She played the character Jesse Smith for 14 episodes from 1986 to 1987.
In 1988, Hargitay had a recurring role as Carly Fixx in the series Falcon Crest. Hargitay is also known for her roles in Prince Street, ER, and Can’t Hurry Love. She joined the cast of Law & Order: SVU in 1999.
How Mariska Hargitay feels about SVU’s Olivia Benson
It has been more than two decades, but Hargitay says she still feels challenged by her role as Olivia Benson. “The subject matter lends itself to a certain integrity and you want to give those stories incredible honor because they’re somebody’s stories,” Hargitay told USA Network. “I’m still being pushed outside my comfort zone constantly, which I think is where all greatness comes from. I’m constantly still scared. People go, ‘Really, you’re still scared?’ And I go, ‘Absolutely.’”
Hargitay says Olivia Benson is someone you would call if you ever needed help. She says the character is tough, but she also has a tender side. Olivia is a “mama bear” who would do whatever it takes to protect those she cares about.
“For the same reason that the show resonates for so many people in that it’s more than a TV show, I think that our viewers really look at it as also a path to healing,” Hargitay continued. “Olivia Benson is a compassionate, empathetic, justice-seeking, mama bear, bad-ass that you want on your sideand you know will listen to you and give you the love and respect that every person deserves.”
Mark Harmon’s movies and TV shows
Harmon made his acting debut in a 1973 episode of the television show Ozzie’s Girls titled “The Candidate.” After that, he appeared in a 1975 episode of the TV series Emergency!

In 1987, Harmon played Freddy Shoop in the movie Summer School opposite actress Kirstie Alley. He then starred in the 1988 military movie The Presidio alongside Sean Connery. Other film appearances include Stealing Home (1988), Till There Was You (1991), and Wyatt Earp (1994). Harmon joined the cast of NCIS in 2003.
How Mark Harmon feels about NCIS’ Agent Gibbs
During an interview with Larry King, Harmon describes Gibbs as a complex character. “[Leroy Gibbs] is complex, which is fun to play,” said Harmon. “And I’ve always said that I like the underbelly parts of this character more than any of it. I like his flaws… His past is dark.”
