After 28 years together, Leah Remini and her husband, Angelo Pagan, have decided to call it quits. The King of Queens star took to Instagram this week to announce the end of her 21-year marriage. The update wasn’t what fans wanted to hear from the former Scientologist, but Remini and Pagan are happy with their decisions. Remini’s fans couldn’t help but notice that her divorce filing has something in common with Jennifer Lopez’s filing. Formerly best friends Lopez and Remini allegedly had a falling out over Ben Affleck. Still, Remini opted to follow Lopez’s divorce lead. She filed for divorce without using a lawyer, just like her jilted former pal.

Leah Remini proceeds with divorce without a lawyer

Leah Remini and Jennifer Lopez might not be as close as they once were, but Remini is taking a page out of Lopez’s book regarding divorce. The King of Queens alum has filed for divorce from Angelo Pagan, and she opted to file the papers without a lawyer. It is a bold move when a fair bit of money is involved in the end of a marriage.

Jennifer Lopez also filed for divorce “pro per,” a move that shocked those familiar with the process of ending a high-profile marriage. Lopez and Affleck reportedly did not have a prenuptial agreement, meaning their divorce could get messy. It is unclear if Remini and Pagan had one in place. While Pagan and Remini’s divorce should sail along without much trouble, things could get messy for Ben and Jen. According to TMZ, talks between the couple have grown very tense in recent weeks.

Leah Remini and Jennifer Lopez’s divorces are different in one key way

While Remini opted to file for divorce without a lawyer like Lopez, that is where the similarities end when it comes to the end of their marriages. Remini insists that she and Angelo Pagan are dedicated to remaining best friends and are moving through the divorce process as civilly as possible. In her Instagram post, she suggested the duo will still gather to celebrate holidays as a family and watch their favorite shows together. Remini went on to call the marriage a “huge success” despite it ending in divorce.

Jennifer Lopez’s divorce appears to be much more bitter. Lopez and Affleck were married for less than two years when things seemed to go terribly awry. He moved out, she was spotted around town looking downtrodden, and he spent extra time with his first ex-wife. While neither Lopez nor Affleck has spoken out about their marriage’s end, it seems far less friendly than Remini and Pagan’s split. It is unlikely that either Affleck or Lopez would classify their short-lived union as a “huge success.”

That, of course, could all change in an instant, though.
