‘Legend of Zelda’ is the Most Wanted Video Game-to-Movie Adaptation for 2022, According to Survey
Video game movies finally started proving successful. After films like Uncharted, Detective Pikachu, and Sonic the Hedgehog proved financially viable enough for Hollywood to pursue the game movies, thousands of gamers were surveyed, and they voted The Legend of Zelda as the most wanted game-to-movie adaptation for 2022. After a Legend of Zelda TV show failed to come to Netflix, Nintendo fans hope a Legend of Zelda movie becomes the next blockbuster.
More than 2,000 gamers surveyed wanted a ‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie for the Most Wanted Video Game-to-Movie Adaptation for 2022
After 36 years since the original 1986 The Legend of Zelda released on NES, fans await the 20th game in the series, the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo Switch recently added The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and Majora’s Mask to the console. However, fans still want more as they wait for BOTW 2.
A press release revealed that “following the buzz surrounding Uncharted, a movie based on the hit video game starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, FandomSpot.com has revealed the top games that gamers most want to see on the big screen.”
“A survey of more than 2,000 gamers revealed that a movie based on The Legend of Zelda would be most favored. Grand Theft Auto and Horizon: Zero Dawn were the second and third most sought after respectively.”
And other Nintendo franchises dominated the list. Super Mario and Animal Crossing both broke into the top 10.
What are the top 10 Most Wanted Video Game-to-Movie Adaptation for 2022?
With The Legend of Zelda having several unique storylines from games like Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, and A Link Between Worlds, a Legend of Zelda movie could take countless routes. However, the survey’s top 10 most wanted game-to-movie adaptations span games with strong stories, unique worlds, and settings.

Fans also wanted a Grand Theft Auto movie and Horizon: Zero Dawn film. The second and third titles would likely have a strong focus on action. However, video game movies like Animal Crossing would have a more relaxed vibe.
Out of the 10 listed games, the #9 spot already has a Super Mario movie in development starring Chris Pratt, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy.
‘The Legend of Zelda’ movie would add another massive gaming franchise to the growing list of adaptations
It’s been a long time since some of the most infamous game-to-movie adaptations, like the Bob Hoskins Super Mario Bros. However, Hollywood might finally be getting the hang of the adaptations.
“Gaming has provided us with so many role models over the years and with gaming becoming more and more representative,” Alyssa Celatti of FandomSpot.com said. “It’s no wonder people are starting to crave seeing the connections they’ve made via their consoles on the big screen.”
A Legend of Zelda video game movie could follow several games in the series. Skyward Sword, Ocarina of Time, and The Wind Waker all have strong stories that could make for great films.
“Many people have a big connection with their fandoms and the characters within, so it’s no surprise that people want to see channel crossover, whether that’s from games to movies and vice versa, or other media forms like comics and TV spin-offs,” Celatti said.
