Lenny Kravitz’s ‘Obsession’ with Lisa Bonet When They First Met Caused Him to End an Engagement
Before Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet began dating, he was engaged to another woman. Although Kravitz says he and Bonet were not romantically involved while he was engaged, he admits he had an “obsession” with the former Cosby Show star. Consequently, he ended his engagement with his fiancée.

Kravitz discusses his relationship with his former fiancée, Mitzi, in his book Let Love Rule. He met her through a friend. He says she was supportive of his career and they loved each other. However, Kravitz says Mitzi was more like his benefactor than a significant other. She supported him financially and made sure he had everything he needed. Although he was grateful for the help, Kravitz says he had mixed feelings about her taking care of him.

Kravitz says he could tell Bonet was special just by watching her on television. He says her Cosby Show character, Denise, was the most fascinating of all the characters on the series. Kravitz describes her as mysterious with a “come-hither” magnetism. He knew he just had to meet her. Little did he know, he would get his chance.
How Lenny Kravitz met Lisa Bonet
Kravitz and Bonet met at a New Edition concert. As Bonet was exiting an elevator, he was searching for something clever to say. Kravitz says the only thing he could think to say was, “I like your hair.” Bonet smiled and said she liked his hair, too. After they got a chance to talk later that night, they exchanged information and became close friends.
Kravitz says he and Bonet “vibed immediately” and they didn’t have to talk a lot to know there was chemistry between them. Since they were both in relationships, Kravitz says he accepted that the only way he could be in her life was to be her friend. He just wanted to be around her, so he tried his best to ignore his romantic feelings. Kravitz says he loved Bonet so much that he would do whatever he had to “be in her energy.”

Kravitz says he ended his engagement with his fiancée because he was so enthralled with Bonet. He even got his nose pierced after he noticed she had gotten a nose piercing. Mitzi began to pick up on his feelings, and according to him, she began acting differently. He says he could feel he tension.
Although Kravitz tried to ignore his romantic feelings, it became tougher. He says one day at a party he came over to Bonet and started massaging her feet. For him, it felt like the natural thing to do, but he later learned that a foot massage can change the dynamics of a relationship.
Kravitz says Mitzi eventually confronted him about Lisa and he admitted that he liked Bonet as more than a friend and he “couldn’t stay away from her.” They decided it would be best if they called off the engagement. Kravitz says he wasn’t happy with the way things ended, but he wanted Bonet in his life.
