Leslie Mann Kept a ‘Disgusting’ Prop from ‘Big Daddy’
Movies take almost a year or more to finish filming. As such, actors can get attached to some items they feel hold sentimental value. From props to legendary jewelry and costumes, it’s no surprise when you hear about an actor taking home something they loved from a movie set.
The Bubble star Leslie Mann kept a “disgusting prop” from her time on the Big Daddy set, which she still has today.
Leslie Mann kept her fake breasts from ‘Big Daddy’
Leslie Mann played Corinne Maloney in the 1998 film Big Daddy. In the movie, she appeared alongside Adam Sandler, John Stewart, and Rob Schneider. Before her character became a podiatrist, she used to wait tables at Hooters, something Sandler’s character Sonny Koufax has never let her forget.
In the movie, Mann has significantly larger breasts. In an interview with Esquire, Mann gave further details about her fake breasts, saying, “They made me wear these big plastic boob things that you can just shove in your bra.”
Mann also had a cheeky way of livening the set, telling the publication that she took them out and threw them around between takes. “It was fun having them, “she said before admitting that the breast made her more flirtatious and made men nicer to her.
In a recent interview with Wired, Mann sat down with her husband Judd Apatow to answer the Web’s Most Searched Questions.
Mann went over her character and their best feature (the boobs) and admitted to still having the boobs. She said, “I asked to keep them after the movie, and every year, I have to like care for them by taking them out of these little plastic bags and putting baby powder on them to keep them from disintegrating.”
When her husband asked why she still has them, Mann replied, “I don’t know,” but joked that she might pull them out for Halloween this year. Apatow and Mann collectively agreed that the props were “disgusting.”
Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow are friends with Adam Sandler
As a couple in the entertainment industry, Apatow and Mann have become friends with several high-flying celebrities, including Mann’s Big Daddy castmate Adam Sandler. In the Wired interview, the pair revealed that Apatow and Sandler are “very good friends.”
The pair’s relationship began when they were roommates in Hollywood, as they once told The Hollywood Reporter. When Sandler got his big break on Saturday Night Live, he continued splitting rent with Apatow because he wanted somewhere to fall back on if the SNL gig didn’t pay off. As it turns out, it did and launched the comedian into stardom.
For Apatow, success in mainstream media would come later, although he still worked as a writer on various shows, including Freaks and Geeks. Apatow remained largely unknown until he directed The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005. After that, things picked up for the director, and he got more jobs.
Projects that the trio have worked on together
Sandler and Apatow have continued their relationship in entertainment, collaborating on various projects. The two worked on the 2009 satirical comedy-drama Funny People, which also saw Apatow’s wife Mann appear. Interestingly, the movie contains real-life clips of Sandler and Apatow’s time as roommates.
Mann and Apatow have collaborated a lot with many of their projects involving their children, Iris and Maude Apatow. The husband-wife duo has worked together on The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, The Cable Guy, and recently The Bubble.
