Many people lie on their resumes to land their most coveted jobs. Although it isn’t a new phenomenon, it is quite surprising how many celebrities did precisely that to land roles. For some, the roles they got after lying catapulted them to success.

For example, Robert Pattinson might be making bank right now, but that wasn’t always the case. After struggling to make a name for himself, the Twilight actor decided to lie about his academics. He lied that he went to Oxford and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

This little lie landed him a spot on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, thus solidifying him as an impressive actor. For Liam Hemsworth, the lie had something to do with his volleyball skills.

Before becoming the great actor he is today, Liam was laying floors for a living. At the time, his older brothers were landing roles in their high school plays left to right and center. Liam then decided to follow in their footsteps.

He ended up getting an agent who got him his first audition at 16. The star’s career began with guest roles in films such as McLeod’s Daughters and Home and Away. In 2007, Liam got into the Australian hit soap opera Neighbours, which his older brother, Luke, had also previously starred in.

He played an athletic paraplegic from 2007 to 2008. Although the role on the hit series was minor, it propelled the actor’s career significantly. In 2008 he landed the role of Marcus on the children show The Elephant Princess.

In 2009, Liam was set to star alongside Sylvester Stallone in The Expendables. However, his character got cut out last minute. He later starred in the sequel The Expendables 2. An interesting fact is that he was the original choice to play Thor.

This was because after The Expendables director Kenneth Branagh had asked Liam to test for Thor. However, Liam lost the role to his older brother Chris who has played the character since 2011.

In 2011, Liam was chosen as one of the leads in The Hunger Games playing Gale Hawthorne. The 30-year-old actor has starred in several films alongside notable names such as Kate Winslet, Emma Roberts, and Amber Heard.

Liam recently starred in a thriller film

In 2019, Liam announced via his Instagram that he was working on a new project with actor and director Malik Barden at the helm. Liam played a money launderer called Moe Diamond, who got mixed up with the wrong people.

If that’s not all, Liam’s character Diamond got involved in a car crash and suffered amnesia. The actor spoke highly of the project, saying that he had “put his blood, sweat, and tears into.” The film called Killerman premiered in August 2019.

Liam also starred in the romantic comedy Isn’t It Funny as the leading man. The one-third of the Hemsworth brothers is currently involved with the Quibi television series Most Dangerous Man, where he plays a fatally ill man, Dodge Tynes, who is trying to provide for his pregnant wife before he dies.

He is also an ambassador for the Australian Childhood Foundation. The Australian actor is dedicated to providing a haven for the children in the foundation and worldwide.

In 2009, Liam landed a significant movie role alongside Miley Cyrus, mostly due to a white lie he made. The Neighbours actor told the showrunners that he was excellent at playing volleyball. According to Vocal, his convincing lie got him the leading role in the movie The Last Song, where he played Cyrus’ love interest, Will Blakelee.

The 30-year-old actor admitted that playing volleyball was the most challenging part about playing the role of Blakelee. The role landed Liam the Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Breakout Star and a Nickelodeon Australian Kids Choice Awards for Favorite Kiss with Miley Cyrus.
