CasaSur Palermo is a posh four-star hotel located on a tree-lined street in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo Hollywood. It’s surrounded by bars, art galleries, and many of the Argentina capital’s best restaurants. The hotel describes its rooms as chic and contemporary with balconies, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, Nespresso machines, and minibars.
CasaSur Palermo’s suites include living rooms and whirlpool tubs. Given Payne’s celebrity status, we estimate he likely stayed in a nicer suite on the third floor, where he fell. The hotel boasts a heated outdoor pool, visible in these aerial photos showing the hip rooftop terrace with patio seating.
According to Page Six, Liam Payne had been staying in Argentina since early October. The English singer and songwriter originally visited in hopes of a reconciliation with former bandmate Niall Horan, who performed in Buenos Aires on October 2. Payne took to Snapchat before his visit, explaining, “It’s been a while since me and Niall have spoken. We’ve got a lot to talk about. And I would like to square up a couple things with the boy.” Payne elaborated that there were “no bad vibes or anything like that,” but he hoped to talk to the 31-year-old.
Since his Snapchat story, fans spotted Payne with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, at Horan’s concert, dancing in a suite. It’s unclear whether the former One Direction pals smoothed things over. But Payne and Cassidy decided to stay a few more weeks in Argentina. His girlfriend of two years returned home to Florida two days before his fall from the balcony.
The circumstances of Liam Payne’s death
At the time of Payne’s death, police were already on their way to CasaSur Palermo Hotel. The hotel manager had called 911, per released phone records via Page Six, saying, “We have a guest who is [allegedly] high and drunk. And when he is conscious, he is destroying his room, and we need you to send someone, please. We need you to send someone urgently because I don’t know if his life is in danger.”
The hotel manager explained that Payne’s third-floor room had a balcony. They were “scared he might be endangering his life.” At this time, the CasaSur Palermo staff member heard a noise and found Payne’s body in the courtyard.
The Forensic Medical Corps at the Judicial Morgue reported that Payne suffered several traumas to his body, which led to external and internal bleeding. They also alleged that the “Sunshine” singer suffered a skull fracture from the fall. Although we don’t know the exact circumstances of the fall, we can assume it was either accidental or a purposeful jump.
