Liam Payne allegedly told a hotel guest that he ‘used to be in a boyband’ while displaying erratic behavior

Liam Payne is known as the glue of One Direction, and fans of the all-male group are devastated to hear of his death on Oct. 16, 2024. Payne reportedly died after falling three stories from a balcony at the CasaCur Palermo Hotel in Argentina. According to police reports, drugs and alcohol were found on the premises, and guests and hotel workers who saw Payne before his death noted his erratic behavior.

A hotel guest known as Rebecca said she had an interaction with Payne at the hotel before his death. According to The Mirror US, Rebecca said Payne appeared “desperate” for others to recognize him. He allegedly introduced himself to other guests waiting for an elevator by announcing, “I’m Liam.”

Rebecca then noted that Payne returned to the lobby with his laptop and turned on the “accessibility setting” to read his email out loud. She noted that he appeared to do this for attention. Then, while seeing his emails, he shouted, “F*** this s***, mate!” and smashed his laptop on the ground.

Rebecca grew concerned for Payne and asked if he was OK following the laptop smashing. He told her, “I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f***ed up.”  Payne left the scene and a British man apologized for his behavior, claiming he “gets so high.”

The One Direction member had a ‘tense’ argument with another woman and offered her $20,000

American tourist Michael Fleischmann told the Buenos Aires Herald that he witnessed an offputting exchange between Liam Payne and a woman at the hotel. According to Fleischmann, Payne kept offering a woman $20,000.

“I’ll give you $20,000 just because I can,” Payne allegedly said. “I have $55 million and I like to help people.” Payne “seemed very upset, agitated, a little wild, walking around and pacing” during the exchange.

The Spanish-speaking woman “looked like she was extremely uncomfortable with him, and a little apprehensive,” Fleischmann’s mother told the publication. “It was just my son, me, Liam Payne, the woman, and the staff. The manager was trying to politely intervene or calm him down. There was a feeling of anxiety in the area.”

“The situation definitely felt very tense,” Fleischmann continued. He then noted that he and his mother headed back up to their room as Payne took the elevator. “He kind of pushed my arm out of the way. That’s the last I saw him,” the guest concluded.

Liam Payne’s friends were planning an intervention

A source told The U.S. Sun that Liam Payne’s friends had been worried about him leading up to his death. They allegedly planned to stage an intervention for his drinking and suspected drug use.

“His friends have been worried about him for weeks because he was struggling with his career and wanted to release some new music but he felt he wasn’t as good as his other bandmates, which they kept telling him just wasn’t true. He was just always so hard on himself,” the source said.

The insider added that Payne’s friends were “heartbroken” to see him in such a dark place following his record label dropping him, but they “just didn’t know how to go about staging a proper intervention.”
