One Direction member Liam Payne died on Oct. 16, 2024, after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Argentina. He was vacationing with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, before the tragedy occurred. Cassidy decided to leave Argentina two days before Payne’s death. Here’s what she posted to TikTok about wanting to leave the hotel and get back home.

One Direction fans are mourning Liam Payne’s death. Payne died after falling from the balcony of his room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Oct. 16, 2024. Before his death, he appeared to be vacationing with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. Payne posted photos and videos with Cassidy to SnapChat before his death, even captioning one of the videos, “Lovely day in Argentina.”

Two days before Payne’s death, Cassidy posted a TikTok showing her leaving Argentina without Payne. She posted video footage of her bags packed in the back of a van as she headed to the airport. “I was so ready to leave, honestly,” she says in the TikTok. “Love South America, but I hate staying in one place for too long. We were supposed to be there for five days, and it turned into two weeks. And I was just like, ‘I need to go home.'”

Cassidy then showed how she was breaking out in a rash from anxiety before her flight back to Florida. She also ate sweets from the lounge. Once on the plane, she had steak for dinner, which she recorded from her seat. “Steak is definitely growing on me now,” she said. “I feel like before coming to South America, I was iffy about it.”

She said she landed in Miami around 6 a.m. to a cloudy, gray day. “I was so happy to be home,” she added while kicking her luggage toward her front door. “It was just so relieving.”

Authorities confirmed that Liam Payne ‘jumped from the balcony’

A police statement to the Associated Press confirmed that One Direction star Liam Payne “jumped from the balcony of his room” at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

The 911 call from the hotel manager stated they had “a guest who is overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol. … He’s destroying the entire room and, well, we need you to send someone, please.” The manager also mentioned that the room contained a balcony.

Authorities continue to investigate the death and will conduct an autopsy.
