Lil’ Kim Names Her Ideal ‘Verzuz’ Battle Mate
Legendary emcee Lil’ Kim is currently promoting the second season of American Gangster: Trap Queens, a BET true crime docuseries, but her name’s been in the headlines for other reasons.
Many hip-hop fans would love to see Queen Bee in a Verzuz match. The popularity of the music series surged after its initial launch in spring 2020, seizing on nostalgia and the hunger to see artists from the golden era of rap.
Lil’ Kim wouldn’t mind sharing the Verzuz stage, and she recently revealed who she’d love to square up against.
Rumors are rampant about Lil’ Kim vs. Foxy Brown ‘Verzuz’
At the close of 2020, some fans fanned the speculation flames of a Verzuz match between Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown, who have been fierce rivals in the past. It’s one pairing that people have been throwing out as a suggestion for months and would make definitely mean a lot for hip-hop culture.
As with the Jeezy and Gucci Mane, the two rappers had some bad blood between them that’s never been quite resolved. Several truces have been attempted between the two Brooklynites, but Lil’ Kim and Foxy have yet to perform together. It’s been over 20 years since their beef started.
But Swizz Beatz shut the rumors down and as far as anyone knows, this Verzuz celebration isn’t happening — yet.
Lil’ Kim would love to do a ‘Verzuz’ celebration with another woman artist
While fans can dream of Lil’ Kim and Foxy Brown coming together like Brandy and Monica, the “Crush on You” rapper has someone else in mind. Lil’ Kim recently appeared on Sway in the Morning and when asked about her favored Verzuz opponent, she shouted out one of her friends.
“I don’t know. I always said me and my sister Missy — we would do a really fun Verzuz,” she said, referring to Missy Elliott. “Yeah, it’s a celebration of catalogs and good music,” Lil’ Kim added. She emphasized their bodies of work and based on their track records, stated it would be a big party.
When host Sway Calloway asked if anyone’s proposed a Verzuz battle, Lil’ Kim said she’s been talking to Swizz Beatz. His answer for a potential match? He jokingly told her “no dudes” want to go up against her. However, there’s one other rapper she may consider.
How about Lil’ Kim and 50 Cent?
Asked about who else may be a fire Verzuz match for her, Lil’ Kim pondered which guy rapper would be good choice. 50 Cent’s name came up. “50 Cent. His catalog is super dope,” she said.
“But I wouldn’t want to go with him, and I know he probably wouldn’t want to go with me because we have a lot of history. It’s weird — we make sense, but then again, it doesn’t make sense,” Lil’ Kim mused.
The Verzuz celebration may be up in the air for her right now, but Lil’ Kim assured Sway that she has some fresh projects on the burner, and there’s more she wants to share with fans. Stay tuned.
