When it comes to young celebrity couples, you’d be hard-pressed to find a couple who was as tight-lipped as Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse. In fact, it’s anyone’s guess how many times the two Riverdale stars have broken up amidst their courtship. Furthermore, it remains unclear if the pair are currently broken up and, if so, how long they have been that way.

Back in April 2020, fans of Sprouse and Reinhart began speculating that the pair had called it quits again. After Reinhart’s family members unfollowed the Disney alum, and she scrubbed her Instagram of all photographic evidence of Sprouse, that speculation seemed to give way to confirmation. Things got even more heated when fans did some detective work and discovered that Sprouse was quarantined with Kaia Gerber.

After fans discovered that Gerber and Sprouse were spending a great deal of time together, cheating rumors emerged. Fans began to leave hate on Gerber’s page. Furthermore, they began to speculate that Sprouse’s infidelity with Gerber was the cause of the split between himself and Reinhart. Sprouse went on an Instagram rant denouncing those rumors and things seemed to die down for a bit. But, the drama didn’t stop there.

Over the weekend, Reinhart went on a rant of her own. Seeing that #ColeSprouseIsOverParty was trending on Twitter, she seemingly wrote some pretty intense tweets in response. In the since-deleted tweets, Reinhart also shared that cyberbullying and cancel culture play a large role in why some celebrities choose to be so private about their romantic relationships. Fans couldn’t help but deduce she was talking about her (potentially former) relationship with Sprouse.

Reinhart goes on a massive Twitter rant

“Twitter is such a vile place. It’s so easy to say sh*t behind your fu*king phone, isn’t it? This why people chose to keep their relationships private…this is why people don’t have social media…because of bullying,” Reinhart began. The Riverdale actress then continued on to share that cancel culture was extremely disruptive.

“You want to feel validated and important? Attacking someone online won’t give that to you. Do something helpful with your time and be better. I refuse to keep my mouth shut about things like this. You have no idea how destructive this can be to someone. To anyone. It’s abusive. There is no excuse for this. You need God in your life or some form of help if you participate in cancel culture,” Reinhart said, likely in response to Twitter’s declaration that Sprouse was over.

Fans are puzzled by the ‘Riverdale’ actress’ response

Fans were mostly taken aback by Reinhart’s response. Many of them declared that the hashtag about Sprouse was simply the result of KPop Twitter trying to get views on their fan cams. “Whenever you see a ‘____ is over’ tag on twitter, ignore it. It’s KPop nonsense,” one person wrote. “As of this writing, there’s currently a ‘Tom Holland is over’ trending tag. It’s a meme at this point,” another person chimed in.

Other people felt that Reinhart had a point, but couldn’t get over her defending Sprouse. “Lmao I mean, she’s got a point but imagine spending all this energy to defend Cole Sprouse…” one Twitter user declared. “I would never go this hard for an ex. esp one that left me to quarantine with an 18-year-old lol,” one person wrote, again referencing the Gerber cheating rumors.

Should the former couple log off Twitter?

Furthermore, others couldn’t understand why Reinhart swiftly deleted the tweets, especially after saying she wouldn’t keep her mouth shut. “I don’t see the point of saying this and then deleting the tweets… All those celebs that go on twitter rants and then delete all the “evidence” are annoying. It seems they regret what they say 5 minutes later,” one person pointed out.

With all the hate and speculation, we can understand why Sprouse and Reinhart chose to keep their relationship private. However, sometimes being private leads fans to believe that there’s something to hide. This is likely part of the reasons the cheating rumors got started. Whatever the case, it might be best for both Riverdale stars to log off for a while.
