Kate Middleton’s back in the public eye, and she’s dishing out advice. The Princess of Wales gave her and Prince William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, some simple advice at Trooping the Colour. Ahead, what a lip reader believes Kate told Charlotte at the parade.

Kate Middleton made her first public appearance of 2024 at Trooping the Colour

Following much speculation about whether or not she’d be at Trooping the Colour, Kate attended the June 15, 2024, celebration honoring King Charles III’s birthday. (The monarch’s birthday is in November; however, the official celebration takes place in June.)

It marked Kate’s first public appearance in six months—since Christmas Day 2023—after being diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer and undergoing treatment, which is still ongoing.

She joined her husband, the Prince of Wales, 41, their children, Prince George, 10, Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, the king, 75, and Queen Camilla, 76, as well as other royals, for the festivities in London, England.

Kate rode in a carriage with George, Charlotte, and Louis—before standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony to watch a military air show.

The Princess of Wales had two simple words of advice for her daughter at the festivities. Upon arriving at Horse Guards, Kate, George, Charlotte, and Louis all geared up to watch the parade from a nearby building.

It was during this time that, per lip reader Nicola Hinckley, Kate not only gave some instructions but also advice.

“You stay there, OK?” the 42-year-old appeared to tell her children before looking at Charlotte and saying, “Keep smiling and stay here for one moment” (via Mirror).

George, Charlotte, and Louis are no strangers to Trooping the Colour. They’re a fixture at the celebration, having attended since they were babies. George, 10, made his Trooping the Colour appearance in 2015 followed a year later by Charlotte. Meanwhile, Louis made his debut in 2019.

There will undoubtedly come a time when George, Charlotte, and Louis don’t need any advice or directions during Trooping the Colour but they aren’t there quite yet.

Kate is learning to deal with ‘uncertainty’ as she returns to the spotlight

Before making her first public appearance in six months at Trooping the Colour, Kate revealed her intention to join in the celebration with a new photo and statement.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer,” she said in a statement alongside a photo of her leaning against a tree.

Noting she’s “making good progress” with preventative chemotherapy treatment, Kate acknowledged “there are good days and bad days” and that she’s “not out of the woods yet.”

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty,” she said. “Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

Kate also shared that her treatment’s ongoing for “a few more months” and that she’s “starting to do a little work from home.”
