‘Little House on the Prairie’s’ Melissa Gilbert Once Caught Rob Lowe With His Secret Lover

Little House on the Prairie’s Melissa Gilbert formed a serious relationship with Rob Lowe. The two dated for several years, yet things took a turn for the worse after Lowe got involved with his co-star, Nastassja Kinski. Gilbert had found out about his affair and flew to where Lowe was filming to confront him.

While he was sneaking around with his co-star in a hotel, Gilbert showed up and shocked Lowe with her presence. In her memoir, she says that “all the blood drained from his face” once she caught him with his secret lover.

From the very beginning, Gilbert could tell that Lowe was attracted to Kinski. It all started when Lowe and Gilbert went to see a play that starred Kinski as one of the leads. After the show, Lowe raved about Kinski, saying, “She’s really something, isn’t she?”

All at once, the Little House on the Prairie actor could sense how smitten her boyfriend was for this woman. Yet she brushed the matter off, until she learned that Lowe would be starring in a movie with her.

This brought Gilbert’s suspicions to an all-time high. She began to obsess over the two of them, wondering if they were having an affair behind her back. Anxiously, Gilbert called the hotel room where Lowe was staying, and got no answer.

“After numerous rings, the hotel operator came on the line and asked if I would like to leave a message,” Gilbert writes in her memoir. “Frustrated, I asked her to ring his room again. Instead of saying ‘of course,’ she paused. She sighed and said, ‘Ms. Gilbert, shall I ring Ms. Kinski’s room?’”

“Excuse Me?” Gilbert said.

“Mr. Lowe,” she said, “Just asked for a wake-up call from Miss Kinski’s room.”

Her instincts were right. Lowe was cheating. That’s when Gilbert decided to travel to the hotel where her boyfriend was staying so that she could confront him in person.

Gilbert got to the hotel, ready to catch her boyfriend in the act. She wanted to see it with her own eyes.

After waiting for Lowe in the lobby, she finally caught him walking alongside Nastassja Kinski.

“Rob and Nastassja walked in, talking to each other,” she writes. “Though it looked innocent enough, I knew it wasn’t. Shaking like a nervous chihuahua, I called to him. Rob turned toward me, shocked by the sound of my voice. I saw the blood drain from his face, then his arms, and then his hands as he turned white.”

Gilbert continues. “A moment later, though, his expression changed. It was as if he flipped a switch inside himself. Brightening, he yelled one of his pet names for me- Mouse, Bunny, Baby Girl, I don’t remember which. And (he) ran toward me, enveloping me in his arms and pushing me into a corner where he smothered me with affection, and at the same time hid me from the view of his castmates.”

Once they got to Lowe’s hotel room, Gilbert confronted her boyfriend. “I know you’ve been sleeping with Nastassja,” she said.

And although Lowe kept on denying it, he eventually confessed to his affair.

As a response to his infidelity, Gilbert walked up to Lowe, put her hand on his face, and said very calmly and slowly, “You don’t f*ck with America’s Sweetheart.”

With that, she walked out of the room and went straight to the airport.
