Why Is ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Vet Hunter Tylo Not Back on the Show?
The Bold and the Beautiful has been delighting soap opera fans for more than 30 years. And, one of the mainstays on the show was Hunter Tylo. Tylo played Dr. Hayes for a very long time — so much so, in fact, that she became an integral part of the show. But in this week’s The Bold and the Beautiful comings and goings, we discuss why she wasn’t asked back to play her iconic role. This role is now being played by Days of Our Lives alum Krista Allen.
Hunter Tylo left ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ in 2019
The last time we saw Hunter Tylo play the role of Dr. Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful was in 2019. At that time, the show explained her departure by claiming she was doing missionary work. Now, when she returns this week, Days of Our Lives alum Krista Allen will take over the role, according to SoapHub.
The ‘official story’ was that the CBS execs ‘couldn’t get her through the door’
When word about Dr. Hayes’s return first started getting circulated amongst the soap opera intelligentsia, fans of The Bold and the Beautiful thought Tylo would be returning to the role she made famous. After all, she’d “come back from the dead” before, in a manner of speaking.
That, unfortunately, was not to be. Back in August 2021, when Steffy was marrying Finn, Soaps @ SheKnows believed Tylo would make a surprise appearance. After all, her daughter was getting married. Unfortunately, that’s not what fans — or Steffy — got. Instead, they got the return of Sheila Carter. So, what happened?
A source close to The Bold and the Beautiful told Entertainment Weekly that CBS executives were trying to come to terms with Tylo on her return. They, unfortunately, were unsuccessful.
She was fired from ‘All My Children’
Speculation about Hunter Tylo’s status with The Bold and the Beautiful aside, she was fired from a soap opera in the past. Back in the 1980s, she was fired from All My Children.
“During Tylo’s time as Robin on All My Children, the actor — known then as Deborah Morehart — met and fell in love with her co-star Michael Tylo,” we reported. “She landed her role opposite Michael Tylo on All My Children a year later. The two married in 1987 — but not before issues at work got in the way. According to multiple outlets, Tylo was fired from the set after her relationship with her co-star was discovered. “They said they had a rule about that and one of us would have to go, so I said: ‘See you later. Go [expletive] in your hat.’”
There haven’t been any recent rumors about affairs on The Bold and the Beautiful set. However, there’s a possibility that Tylo hated her character, and didn’t want to play her anymore. Either way, this is all just speculation. We’ll just have to tune in to more The Bold and the Beautiful news to find out for sure.
