Liv Tyler Has an Astounding 25-Step Beauty Routine That Involves a $300 Serum
Liv Tyler will be 43 next month, but she still has a wonderful, youthful glow. Tyler has made her money through modeling, acting, and many partnerships with major companies. Being the daughter of a rock star, she has good genes, but that can’t account for everything. Luckily, Tyler shared her beauty routine with the rest of us, and it’s a lot more complicated than you’d expect.
Family inspires Liv Tyler’s beauty routine
Tyler shared her beauty routine in a YouTube video for Vogue. The video begins with Tyler pointing out the photos which hang behind her on the bathroom wall. “That’s my mom and my grandma in the back,” Tyler says while pointing to the pictures. “They’re my beauty inspiration. I think I’ve always been enchanted watching them do their face and their skincare routines and their makeup.”
Tyler’s mother is Bebe Buell who was a Playboy model in the 1970s. According to Harper’s Bazaar, she regularly spent time with famous rock stars, including Mick Jagger, John Lennon, and of course, Tyler’s father, Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler. Her grandmother is a sophisticated manners expert, Dorothea Johnson, who has written several books on the subject of polite behavior. With both these women in her family tree, it’s easy to see where Tyler inherited her grace and beauty.
But the women in her family aren’t the only ones who inspire Tyler when it comes to skincare. “My dad is so into skin care,” Tyler explains in the video. “When I go visit him, I usually spend half of the time in the bathroom just going over products. His whole bathroom is filled! … He’s turned 70, but he’s got the most beautiful skin, and it’s because he takes really good care of it.”
Unfortunately, Tyler doesn’t clarify which father she’s talking about here- she actually has two. We all know the Aerosmith rocker from which she gets her last name, but Tyler was actually raised by another man, Utopia band member Todd Rundgren.
Rundgren was in a relationship with Tyler’s mother, Buell, around the same time she had her fling with Steven Tyler. He knew that the Aerosmith frontman was likely the little’s girl’s biological father, but he attended the birth and signed the birth certificate anyway, raising her as his own. Tyler didn’t find out her biological father’s identity until she was an early teenager.
Now, she’s extremely close to both men and considers them both her fathers. So, it’s unclear which one Tyler is referring to in the video. They are both just over 70 years old, and so fit the age range she mentioned. Perhaps it really doesn’t matter, because they both have great skin anyway.

After discussing her beauty inspiration, Tyler runs through her entire skincare routine with viewers. She uses two cleansers. The first is an oil-based cleanser to remove makeup, and the second if a foaming facial soap to remove deep-rooted debris.
She also uses two face masks to achieve two different results. The first is an exfoliating purification mask. Exfoliation, Tyler explains, is super important for healthy skin. “To me, the secret to beautiful skin is exfoliation and keeping all the dead skin cells buffed off your skin,” she says.
She also uses a calming mask to soothe her skin after the rough exfoliation experience. Next, Tyler applies a drop of Dr. Barbara Sturm Hyaluronic Serum, which is valued at $300. But that alone isn’t enough moisture for her, because Tyler then applies another luxury face oil, and then a moisturizing cream.
Liv Tyler’s beauty extras
Tyler finishes with a natural makeup look that uses several of the same categories of products (for example she uses three different lip colors), but that really only includes foundation, cover-up, lip gloss, light eye shadow, and mascara. In fact, the number of products that she puts on her face throughout the entire video is rather astounding, and they’re all high-quality products.
In addition to the products, Tyler also mentions several beauty secrets that she uses to maintain her healthy glow. First, plenty of water, which is a given. But she also recommends green juice, made from “all the green things your body loves.” She lists several of the fruits and vegetables that she uses herself but says that you can make it using anything green that you enjoy.
Another big way Tyler keeps her skin looking fresh is by making sure that she’s not stressed. Tyler recommends a CBD oil and a facial massager to help calm the nerves and maintain elasticity in the skin.
When you add everything Tyler mentions in her video, it becomes a rather complicated routine. According to Page Six, Tyler’s entire skincare and makeup routine costs over $1,700. Not exactly something the average woman can copy, but it’s certainly working for Tyler.
