Disney is creating a live-action adaptation of ‘Bambi’

Hot off the heels of Disney’s photo-real adaptation of The Lion King, this studio is remaking another one of its classic movies. Bambi tells the story of one deer and a few of his adorable friends, as they explore their forest home. For the upcoming reboot, the characters are expected to be a photo-real version of the original characters, similar to the 2019 remake of The Lion King.

The Hollywood Reporter states, “the studio has hired Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider) and Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser, Chaos Walking) to pen the screenplay for the live-action remake.”

Reportedly, the live-action reboot will be produced by Depth of Field. That is, the company run by Chris and Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano of The Farewell. More information will presumably be announced by Disney in the coming months, including a tentative premiere date and the official cast list for this film.

Is the live-action ‘Bambi’ premiering on Disney+?

Disney has not announced the premiere date of this upcoming film. With the launch of the company’s streaming platform, Disney+, some fans wonder if this will become an exclusive and original movie, available with a subscription.

There’s no word regarding when, or if, this live-action adaptation of Bambi will join the Disney+ streaming library. Unlike the live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp, this upcoming movie is presumably headed straight to theaters, instead of Disney’s online service. Since news broke of Bambi, some Disney fans took to social media, sharing their thoughts on this upcoming film.

“There [are] 3 perfectly awesome Disney movies that could actually benefit from a live-action remake. But instead, we’re remaking The Lady and the Tramp, Bambi, and… Pinocchio,” one Twitter user said.

“Disney is apparently working on a remake of Bambi. Oh goodie. I’m not looking forward to it since I really don’t want Disney to keep remaking their animated classics and that it’s also gonna spawn another debate on whether it’s live-action or animated like that Lion King remake,” another Twitter user wrote.

The original ‘Bambi’ is available on the company’s streaming platform, Disney+

Once Disney launched its streaming platform, the company added a few of its classic movies from the “vault” to its library. In the past, Disney would only release their classic movies during certain years.

However, this streaming platform brought plenty of beloved animated films, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Moana. Originally released during 1942, the animated version of Bambi is currently available with a subscription to Disney+. The sequel of Bambi, which Disney released in 2006, is also on this streaming platform.
