This studio is starting the decade off strong with two new Pixar movies and a handful of live-action films ready for their theatrical release. While some are remakes of already released animated movies, others feature completely new and exciting stories, based on the MCU and even one based on a theme park attraction. Here’s our guide to Disney’s live-action films premiering during 2020.

The next live-action Disney remake is ‘Mulan’

The next Disney character getting a live-action reboot is actually the company’s first warrior princess. This adaptation of Mulan is directed by Niki Caro and follows the Chinese folksong, “The Ballad of Mulan.”

It has a few new characters, even a shape-shifting witch, but features Hua Mulan and her journey with the Chinese army. This version of Mulan premieres in theaters on March 27, 2020. Until then, fans can watch Disney’s animated movie on their streaming platform, Disney+.

Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ premieres during 2020

She is a main character in Marvel movies like Avengers: Civil War and Avengers: Endgame. Though her fate my be regrettable, Black Widow played a huge role in the MCU, all without having her a stand-alone movie. After years of knowing Natasha Romanoff, the character is finally the star of her own self-titled Marvel flick.

Scarlett Johansson will reprise her role as the main character, and, based on the trailer, she appears alongside actors Florence Pugh (Little Women, Midsommar,) Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Favourite,) and David Harbour (Stranger Things.) Black Widow is scheduled for a May 2020 release.

Emily Blunt and Dwanye ‘The Rock’ Johnson star in Disney’s ‘Jungle Cruise’

From Pirates of the Carribean to The Haunted Mansion, there are a few Disney movies based on the company’s theme park attractions. The next film joining that list is The Jungle Cruise, a movie starring Mary Poppins Returns actress Emily Blunt and Moana’s Dwanye Johnson.

Based on the trailer, fans see these characters embarking on a dangerous (and, likely, pretty fun) adventure together. They even manage to see the eighth wonder of the world: the backside of water! Disney’s Jungle Cruise premieres on July 24, 2020.

Some live-action adaptations and original movies are available on Disney+

Around November or December, there will presumably be a “live” version of a beloved stage show. Last year, ABC put on a production of The Little Mermaid Live! However, there has not been an announcement from the television network or the Walt Disney Company regarding another musical television special.

In the meantime, fans can watch other Disney live-action movies and television shows on Disney+. That includes recently-released adaptations like Dumbo, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and the “photo-real” version of The Lion King.

Other Disney-owned, live-action movies reportedly premiering during 2020 include Eternals, Artemis Fowl, and West Side Story. And, of course, there are plenty of animated movies premiering this year.

That includes Disney-Pixar’s Onward which premieres during March 2020 and Soul which premieres during June 2020. Additionally, original movies will debut on Disney’s streaming platform periodically.
