Lizzo Had a Different Celebrity Crush as a Teenager While Everyone Else Liked Leonardo DiCaprio
We all have celebrity crushes as a kid (and as adults), including celebrities themselves. Lizzo is no different. And while some people take pride in who their popular crushes are (remember when Twilight fans fought between Team Edward and Team Jacob?), others — like Lizzo — have crushes on people who aren’t traditionally viewed as heartthrobs.
Lizzo just made fashion history
In less than two years, Lizzo has taken over all corners of the entertainment industry and knocked down doors along the way. Though she’s been making music for nearly a decade, it wasn’t until the explosion of her single “Truth Hurts” in 2019 that put her on the map. The song set a record for the longest-running solo female rap song in the number 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Since then, Lizzo has appeared in movies (including Jennifer Lopez’s acclaimed Hustlers) and become a brand ambassador for many companies, including Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty lingerie line. She even appeared in this year’s Savage X Fenty show.
As the cover star for Vogue‘s October 2020 issue, Lizzo became yet another “first,” and discussed it in an Instagram post. “I am the first big Black woman on the cover of Vogue magazine,” she said. “The first Black anything feels overdue. But our time has come. To all my Black girls, if someone like you hasn’t done it yet — BE THE FIRST.”

Lizzo opened up about her success and much more in an interview with Vogue after her historic cover shoot. When asked about her celebrity crush as a teenager, she acknowledges that even when she was young, she was always different from her peers. “Everybody liked Leonardo DiCaprio,” she said casually. “I liked B2K.”
When asked about her celebrity crushes now, she dodged the question — likely because she’s a celebrity now herself. “I don’t have any celebrity crushes now. Zero. Zip. Zero.”
Lizzo and B2K have a few things in common
B2K was one of the biggest R&B groups at the turn of the century, and eventually launched the solo careers of Omarion, Lil’ Fizz, Raz-B, and J-Boog. They also have a few musical accomplishments that they both share.
B2K’s hit single “Bump, Bump, Bump” featuring P. Diddy topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in February 2003. Prior to this, they hadn’t broken the top 30 on the chart.
B2K’s second album Pandemonium! — promoted by “Bump, Bump, Bump” as its lead single — sold over a million copies and earned RIAA certified Platinum status. Coincidentally, Lizzo’s breakout album Cuz I Love You also went platinum, as well as its lead single “Juice.”
Lizzo and B2K have also been honored at the same award shows nearly two decades apart. During their short two-year reign in the early 2000s, B2K won three BET Awards and three Soul Train Music Awards. By contrast, Lizzo has one BET Award and two Soul Train Awards.
What makes Lizzo different from B2K is the fact that she’s been nominated in more than 70 categories and won over a dozen awards in the same period of time. The best part: it’s only up from here for her.
