Ever since the God of Mischief upended the Sacred Timeline, fans have been waiting to see how the next chapter of his story plays out. Luckily, production on Loki Season 2 is about to begin. And even better news —  the entire cast will return.

‘Loki’ is the only live-action Disney+ MCU series to get a second season

Wandavision hit Disney+ in January 2021. And since then, Marvel has debuted several superhero series, including The Falcon and the Winter SoldierLokiWhat If?, Hawkeye, and most recently, Moon Knight

All of these shows have done well on the streamer in terms of viewership. But according to Marvel boss Kevin Feige, Loki was the most watched. And as reported by Deadline, while debuting the She-Hulk trailer at Disney’s Upfront, the producer called Loki a “bold swing” and suggested the “wild ride paid off.”

Not only is Loki the most popular MCU series, but it’s also the only live-action show to get a Season 2 renewal. The animated What If? is also returning for a second season.

‘Loki’ Season 2 starts production soon

At Disney’s Upfront, Feige also revealed that production on Loki Season 2 would start by June/July of 2022. And in a tweet, entertainment reporter Jason Lynch confirmed the entire cast from Season 1 will be back for the next installment.

Loki is the most watched Marvel series on Disney+, says Feige,” Lynch tweeted. “Production on Season 2 starts in a few weeks with the whole cast returning.'”

The Loki cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Musaku, Richard E. Grant, and Tara Strong. There is no word on whether Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror will return.

When fans last saw Loki and Sylvie, they were in Kang the Conqueror’s lair discovering the Time Variance Authority’s origin story. And after Sylvie kills Kang, she presumably alters the timeline in a way that could result in a destructive multiversal war.

Showrunners aren’t saying much about the storyline for Loki Season 2. But in an April 2022 chat with Playlist, Hiddleston teased how the new season will bring resolve.

“We’re in it already,” the actor explained. “We’re in prep, but we start in like six weeks or something. So we’re in full steam ahead in terms of a script and story and it’s really exciting. Yeah, I can’t say too much, but lots of questions to be answered.”

Screenwriter Michael Waldron also talked about the series recently. And he hinted Season 2 of Loki will feature a brand new storyline.

“I mean, it’s gotta be dope,” Waldron told Discussing Film. “When I came onto the first season of Loki, really, I felt like ‘Man, that character had an incredible arc already.’ If he had never shown up again, you know, it’s tragic but his heroic death at Thanos’ hand was a pretty cool conclusion to that character’s arc.”

“The way it’s worth doing this show is if there’s a new story to tell,” he added. “It’s the same approach for season two, can we find new ground to cover? There’s a great team in place. Eric Martin is the head writer for season two, and he was my rock on season one. He’s doing tremendous work and I think it’s going to be great.”
