Showbiz Cheat Sheet: What advice would you give for balancing work and personal life, especially now that more people are working from home?

Jon Niermann: Enjoy the weekends even more these days. If you weren’t used to working virtually prior to this pandemic, there has likely been a huge culture shift. Many things are positive, like decreased commute time, relaxed dress codes and more flexible hours.

More time with the family can be great or also cause tension with shared spaces, different schedules, noise, etc. If you aren’t careful, all seven days can start to feel the same. So, in a sense, you need to “celebrate” the weekends and really unplug to focus on yourself and the family. Leave work for Monday if you can!

CS: What advice would you give someone who wants to be where you are today? How can you thrive in the entertainment industry?

JN: Be kind and have integrity. Kindness goes a long way for loyalty and bosses wanting to help you succeed. People who might be under you in the org structure are just as important as those above you. Someone told me early on at Disney that if you just look up, those below you can cut off your legs, so never forget that. That means if all your subordinates or peers are not saying good things about you, you likely won’t last at that company very long.  Treat them with the same respect as you would the CEO.

Another key tip is that while you technically work for a company, you really work for your boss. That boss ultimately determines how you progress or not at that point in your life. If you become invaluable to your boss, they will always say good things about you to others within the company or industry, and that will open many doors.

Help your boss succeed, and then you have a greater chance to succeed. Finally, never be afraid to be creative and offer your own point of view.  Bosses don’t want to hear you parrot them all of the time–they want you to contribute your own ideas.

CS: Do you have any projects coming up?

JN:  Loop Media is all about creating a 360 viewing experience which means you can see our content essentially anywhere you go–whether it’s our music video on public venues screen, via our mobile app, at home on our app, or regular live streaming channels on your smart TV or connected device.

We will be introducing more content such as some amazing Drone TV travel and racing channels and expanding internationally as we truly want our platform to be a global experience in terms of content, especially music videos.
