Loretta Lynn’s Instagram Tribute to Conway Twitty: ‘What I Wouldn’t Give to Sing With Him Once More’
Country star Loretta Lynn turned to her followers on Instagram to pay tribute to Conway Twitty 29 years after he died. She spoke of her heartbreak over his death in that post and said, “What I wouldn’t give to sing with him one more time.”
Read on to find out if the two music legends were married, what else Lynn said in honor of Twitty on the anniversary of his death, and what she’s been up to in 2022.
Were Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty ever married?
Twitty and Lynn were such a dynamic duo in country music some fans assumed they were married. But they weren’t actually ever a couple.
Lynn married her husband “Doolittle” Lynn as a teenager and remained with him until he died in 1996, despite his rumored cheating. On the other hand, Twitty married three women over 40 years.
However, the singing partners were about as close as close could be without being romantic. And they recorded many albums and chart-topping duets through the years, including the song “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man.”
When Twitty collapsed while on tour in June 1993, Lynn was already at the hospital with her severely ill husband. She thought her friend was coming for a visit and was shocked when she saw him rolled in for treatment instead. So, she was with him in his final hours and begged him not to leave.
Twitty died of an aortic aneurysm at the age of 59. Lynn revealed he was still warm when she returned to his hospital room and touched him the last time. Believing he was in the room in spirit, she even tried ordering him to return to his body.

The “Fist City” singer concluded the post by saying, “He was like a brother to me and a girl couldn’t have ask [sic] for a better friend. We made some great music and some great memories.”

Then, Lynn commemorated her son’s 69th birthday the month after she reached her ninth decade. “A momma is pretty lucky when her baby boy turns out to be one of her best friends,” she wrote on Twitter. “I don’t know how in the world you’re 69 with such a young momma!”
