‘Love & Hip Hop’: A1 Bentley Changes Name and Debuts a Dramatically Different New Look
Love & Hip Hop stars Lyrica Anderson and A1 Bentley have been through a lot, especially this past year. With new music, a new name and a new look, the latter seems to be pushing past all of the headlines and drama.
A1 Bentley and Lyrica Anderson have been through some ups and downs
Bentley and Anderson, have been on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood for the past several seasons, especially in the most recent seasons. As main cast members in the latest season, they were a part of a front-burner storyline involving claims of infidelity.
Both parties have been plagued by rumors of cheating. K. Michelle accused Anderson of cheating on Bentley with Safaree Samuels. Meanwhile, there were rumors that Bentley may have cheated on Anderson while she was pregnant with their son. On the reunion special for the past season, the two discussed their marital problems.
In April, Anderson released the song “Marriot,” which seems to reference a relationship. Many presumed that she was referring to her marriage with Bentley. Last week, Anderson released the song “Marriot,” which seems to reference a rocky relationship. She does not specifically refer to her husband by name in the song. The song’s lyrics include lines like: “Okay I get it / You need space now / You need time now / Just to process / Shared my soul with you / I feel like a fool / How you soon forget I f****d up with you.”
She later told Bossip, “A lot of people watched me and A1 on the show and I actually moved out. When I left, before I found my place I stayed at the Marriott hotel. I was super inspired to talk about my experience. What I went through and how I was super depressed, I felt weird. I’d just had a baby, I took my son with me and then I had a friend who was trying to see what’s up, it was just different.” In that interview, she confirmed that they were not divorced but were no longer living together and co-parenting separately.
The rapper and reality star seems to want a wholly fresh start
This week on social media, Bentley unveiled a name change and a new look. Instead of A1, Bentley seems to now be going by a new stage name, SprngBrk. His new look sees him ditch his signature dreadlocks for a shorter cut. He has also dyed his hair to look like a black and grey/silver mix. With the new name and look, he also debuted a new song, which is titled “Memo.”
The video appears to reference the death of the late George Floyd, who recently died at the hands of police. Though the song’s subject matter doesn’t have anything to do with Floyd or police brutality, Bentley says that he wanted to use this moment to make the video mean something.
“This visual has nothing to do with the song but I thought it was very important that I express the pain that our Black community is feeling,” he wrote. “I shot the video & had my knee on a white cop neck for 8:46. The visual concept is self-explanatory. In the process of shooting the video, I got to realize just how long 8:46 seconds is. Like my ankles and legs were in pain. It broke my heart to know that George Floyd was down there that long fighting for his life.”
He also seemingly compared himself to Jesus in the caption. “Everyone is quick to just make jokes. Instead of actually paying attention to the message. U should know by now I don’t care what people have to say about me 🤷🏽♂️ Remember one thing, they Talked about Jesus too ❗️ pay attention to the message.”
There is no official word yet if Bentley and Anderson will return for the upcoming season of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood.
