‘Love & Hip Hop’: Ray J Files For Divorce From Princess Love After a Reconciliation Attempt Doesn’t Go as Planned
Love & Hip Hop stars Ray J and Princess Love were once headed toward divorce before Love called it off. But now, Ray J is the one who has filed for divorce, and many people are wondering if the couple is done for good.
Ray J and Princess Love’s marriage has been a whirlwind
As depicted on Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, Ray J and Princess Love have always had a troubled relationship. From infidelity to parental interference, the writing was always on the wall. However, things truly didn’t take a turn for the worst until late last year when the two went on a trip to Las Vegas.
Love, took to social media last November and said that Ray J left her and their daughter stranded in Las Vegas. Love was also pregnant with their son at the time. When Ray J went live on Instagram, she commented on it and said, “Filing for divorce when I get back to LA.” E! News reported that Ray J had been “entertaining” other women and was out the whole night.
After this, they seemed to be together a lot but were not back on good terms. TMZ dispelled rumors that the couple was together again, stating that Ray J “desperately” wanted to make things work but Princess was “done with the marriage and heavily considering ending things.”
Their son was born in 2020. In May of this year, Love had formally filed for divorce from Ray J after being separated for months. It was also reported that she wanted custody of the children. They made a public reconciliation attempt during The Conversation on the Zeus Network. However, at the end of this, they decided that they should remain separated and just co-parent until deciding what they wanted to do.
In a stunning about-face, Love rescinded the divorce request and it seemed like they would be getting back together. She called off the divorce in July.
He files for divorce just two months after she retracted her request
Now, it looks like the two are headed toward divorce again, but this time, it is at the request of Ray J instead of Love. According to TMZ, he filed the divorce documents on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. He is seeking joint custody of the children.
In an interview with ET Online, Ray J explained his decision. “You know, I love her and I love my babies and it’s just personal, but she knows how I feel about her,” he said. “I just think that I want to make sure everybody is happy, that everybody enjoys life and that this can help her smile more and enjoy who she is and enjoy her life. You know, sometimes it’s the best thing to do.” He said he did not talk to anyone about it before filing because he would have gotten “too many opinions.”
Despite the divorce filing, he isn’t ruling out them getting back together. “Even if we don’t make it, we still have to be with each other a lot, because we have a baby, so we’re together for life,” he added. Happiness is important. I think. I’ll sacrifice all my happiness for my kids. With that said, we’ll just have to wait and see [what the future holds], but I want to make sure that they’re in a good space, and that she’s in a great space throughout this journey as parents as well.”
Love and Ray J will also continue their working relationship outside of co-parenting. They both co-produce The Conversation and also have other projects that are in the works as well.
