Love Is Blind has taken over the world. In the few short weeks since it debuted on Netflix, the reality dating series has become an absolute sensation. Fans have been stalking the internet for clues about the contestants’ lives and Twitter is going absolutely wild with fan commentary about everything from the finale to the Love Is Blind reunion.

In case you missed it, the show follows 15 men and 15 women who agreed to date without every meeting. Over the course of 10 days, the men and women went on a series of dates, chatting and speaking to one another for long hours without ever meeting face to face. This means they had long personal conversations in pod-like structures without ever knowing what their date looked like.

The couples were only ever allowed to meet face-to-face once a proposal was offered and then accepted. It was truly wild to watch. Now that we know the outcome of Season 1 of Love Is Blind, we also know that many contestants chose to use the pods to take epic naps.

‘Love Is Blind’ contestants had no outside contact with the world

Since the premise of Love Is Blind was to have the contestants really focus on finding true love, the show’s creator and producer wanted to be sure to eliminate any outside distractions.

This included 10 days in the pods — for dating and 15 days before the matches were allowed to return to the “real world.” “It was about 15-16 days that we didn’t talk to anybody in the outside world,” Mark Cuevas described the experience on 11Alive. “So what was cool about that was we literally had to go into ourselves [and ask] what do I want, what’s important to me?”

The’ Love Is Blind’ dating pods were very nice

When they weren’t in the pods or hanging out in the gender-specific living area, they were sleeping in their living quarters. Unfortunately, they weren’t exactly glamourous. “We slept in trailers and they were correctional facility beds,” Kenny told Refinery29. “The design was to just strip us down from our comfort level.”

Thankfully, the cozy pods made up for the terrible sleeping situation. “The comforting and soothing colors of the pods were all by design to allow our participants the best chance to really focus on the voice on the other side of the wall,” Paria Sadighi, SVP of the production company that came to Netflix with the design for the pods, told Refinery29. “Even the acoustics of the pods were made to help the other senses relax into the octave of conversations.”

The ‘Love Is Blind’ contestants would take naps in the pods

Since every date wasn’t exactly magical and the pods were so cozy, many contestants chose to use drab dates to catch up on sleep. “If we were with someone and the connection wasn’t quite romantic but you still have three hours, we would take naps,” Lauren Speed told Glamour. “We would be like, ‘Let’s take a date nap. Just do that. Let’s rest up because we know that there’s no romance here.'”
