‘LPBW’: Matt and Amy Roloff Were Only Engaged for 3 Months Prior to Their Wedding Day
Those who’ve watched Little People, Big World know all about Matt and Amy Roloff. The couple was married for decades, and they have four kids together. Matt and Amy separated years ago and have since both moved on with new significant others. But we’re still gathering more information about their relationship.
Amy created a YouTube channel — and in her introductory video, she talked about her marriage to Matt. She noted she and Matt sustained a long-distance relationship the entire time they were dating and were engaged. And they had a very brief engagement.
Matt and Amy Roloff from ‘Little People, Big World’ had a volatile end to their marriage
It’s for the best that Matt and Amy are no longer together, but the divorce was particularly hard on Amy back in 2016. She wrote about the split in her memoir, A Little Me. According to Amy, Matt was exchanging inappropriate texts and photos with his current girlfriend of over three years, Caryn Chandler. And it crushed Amy when she found out the truth.
“I kept quiet over the years,” Amy wrote. “I didn’t even think about divorce; I didn’t want it to be an option. I’ve never felt so alone, hurt, and betrayed in my life.”
Amy’s since talked about the divorce at length. “At least, for me, it was like a loss,” Amy told her Instagram followers in a live video. “Divorce was hard on me. I did consider it a loss, but I was beginning to be at a point, it’s like, you know what? But I still like me. I am still good. And I am going to go out there and figure it out.”
Amy said her engagement was just 3 months long
Not only was the divorce difficult for Amy to manage, but before Matt and Amy were married, they faced their own obstacles. Amy and Matt barely spent any time together prior to their engagement. And it seems they really started to get to know each other only after they married.
On July 1, Amy posted a short biographical video to her new YouTube channel. And she briefly goes into her life prior to marrying Matt.
“One day, I met someone at the annual Little People of America national conference. He was from California, and I from Michigan,” Amy explained, referring to Matt. “We were two different types of people and had two different types of dwarfism.”
Amy then explained that she saw Matt in person just four times prior to their engagement. “I wasn’t going to let distance get in the way of my relationship,” she added. “We got married three months later. I moved from everything I’ve ever known — my home, family, friends, community, and home state to move out West to where he lived.”
Amy’s loving life with her fiancé, Chris Marek
Amy briefly went over the divorce in her biographical video. “As time went on, a big personal change happened in my life,” she noted. “After 26 years of marriage, my marriage ended. I was so very, very sad.” But Amy then explained that she’s in a “new relationship” with Chris Marek — though it’s not so new anymore. Amy and Chris are engaged, and she seems happier than ever before.
It looks like Amy will have a much longer engagement with Chris than she did with Matt. While coronavirus (COVID-19) may be delaying their plans, Amy’s taking her time to make sure all of the plans are exactly how she wants them, as this will be Chris’ first time getting married. And Matt and Caryn will likely attend as well.
“I’m much more of a traditional person … I want the wedding and the reception,” Amy said in a Facebook Live video. “I would like to share that experience with [Chris].”
We’re excited to hear about Amy’s wedding plans as they come! As for Matt and Caryn, it looks like they’re waiting until Amy’s wedding is over to tie the knot, too.
