Luke Combs Studied to Be a Homicide Detective Before His Country Career Took Off
Just like regular people, celebrities can wonder about the “what ifs.” Many of Hollywood’s favorite names and faces had totally different plans and occupations before making it big.
For instance, Terry Crews, often recognized for his Brooklyn Nine-Nine character, was a courtroom sketch artist before his acting career took off. Hugh Jackman, known for The Wolverine and The Greatest Showmen, had a short stint as a physical education teacher.
Country singer Luke Combs is another popular celebrity who was prepared to take another path had his musical success not gotten in the way.

Combs is a big deal in the country music scene. This One’s for You, Combs’ debut album, premiered in 2017 and landed the country singer a Billboard Music Award nomination for Best Country Album.
Combs’ career has come a long way over the years. At one point, it was going to look totally different. While on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Combs revealed he studied to be a homicide detective before his country career. During his undergrad days, Combs’ major was criminal justice.
One of the star’s Twitter posts highlighted his early days as a musician. In the tweet, Combs wrote, “In college, the owner of a local bar let me play my 1st ever show. Sold 200 tickets at $1 a piece; it was more than I made at my jobs, but I didn’t think about doing it as a living. I just loved playing.” Well, it’s safe to say a lot has changed since then.

Fallon, like many of Combs’ fans, was surprised to learn about the award-winning country singer’s alternative path. While speaking with the TV host, Combs explained the common thread between the two.
Combs was drawn to being a homicide detective because he found the idea of cracking mysteries to be intriguing. The singer explained, “It was like solving the puzzle was the intriguing part to me, which is what I love about writing songs.” He added, “It is like a puzzle that has no pieces. So you make the pieces, and then you have to put them together. That’s the thing I enjoy so much about writing music.”
Combs’ country career and net worth
After This One’s for You, Combs’ country music career and fame skyrocketed. The star’s second album followed shortly after. What You See Is What You Get was released in 2019. The album that included popular hits such as “Refrigerator Door” and “Beer Never Broke My Heart” won Album of the Year at the 2020 Country Music Awards.
With so much success, Combs’ fans and followers probably aren’t surprised to learn the country star’s net worth is valued at about 5 million dollars. The musician has released a few EPs since, but Combs’ fans are anxiously awaiting the star’s third album.
Fortunately, back in February, Combs shared in a tweet that new music was on the way. Though no official release date has been set just yet, country music fans everywhere are definitely looking forward to Combs’ next album. He may have not become a homicide detective, but his fans are probably more than OK with that.
