These boys are back and dominating the music charts. According to the group leader RM, though, recording their recent song was just as fun. Here’s what the BTS rapper had to say about writing, recording, and performing their bright and colorful song, titled “Dynamite.”

RM described what the recording process was like for ‘Dynamite’

Although they’ve been socially distant from fans, these boys are still looking for ways to make people happy with their music. Naturally, that led to the debut of “Dynamite” and its music video, a colorful, upbeat song released ahead of their album. During one interview with Billboard, the boys celebrated their first Billboard No. 1 hit with “Dynamite.”

“So it’s basically like a dance song, it was disco-pop so everyone was, like, singing, recording, and dancing at the same time. Just can’t hold my body,” RM said when asked about the recording process for “Dynamite.” The leader of the group also helped with the writing process of this song.

‘Dynamite’ is BTS’ first song released entirely in English

This single held a pretty different sound from what BTS is used to, taking a step away from the introspective sound of “Black Swan” from Map of the Soul: 7. Additionally, the song included, for the first time ever, lyrics entirely in English.

During an interview with USA TODAY the interviewer pointed out that BTS previously said performing a song fully in English wasn’t something they’d do.

“We never expected this song would come, you know, like even in fully English, like you said, but many things have changed and, you know during the process of making our album, which we’re going to release later this year, we just met this song like a destiny and when we first listened to the demo, the lyrics and the vibes and you know, everything was so perfect,” RM said.

BTS performed ‘Dynamite’ at the MTV Video Music Awards

After the historic release of “Dynamite,” and its record shattering 24-hours on YouTube, the boy band took their success to the American award show, the MTV VMAs. This was their first time performing there, even though they were actually dancing and singing in Seoul, South Korea.

The boys also took home a number of awards that evening, including Best Choreography, Best Pop Video, and Best Group, all of which were in conjunction with their 2020 album, Map of the Soul: 7. Fans still look forward to new music, though, with some expecting new songs to drop sometime during fall/winter 2020.

The “Dynamite” music video is now available on YouTube. Music by BTS, including their recently released album, Map of the Soul: 7, is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major platforms.
