Mariah Carey Addressed Rumored Rift With Jay-Z
Mariah Carey is shutting down rumors of a fallout with Jay-Z and Roc Nation. Over the weekend of June 4, rumors emerged that she quit the management company after an alleged “explosive meeting” with Jay-Z. But she pushed back on the reports, insisting nothing of the sort ever happened.
Mariah Carey was said to have had a big fight with Jay-Z
The Sun reported that Carey met with Jay-Z in June to discuss the future of her career when an alleged argument erupted, leading her to quit his management company.
“Mariah and Jay had an explosive meeting which did not go well at all,” the source said. “She has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with him and has called it quits with Roc Nation. She will formally depart in the next few weeks. It is a shame because they had done some great work in the last few years. But this meeting couldn’t have gone much worse.”
The source also pointed out, “Mariah has been talking to other managers and thinks she has found someone who she feels has full belief in her as she takes her next steps. There is a heavily R&B- influenced album being finalised at the moment and she is planning a world tour for next year, so she isn’t letting this stand in her way.”
Mariah Carey has since responded to the report
As the rumors of the alleged fallout swirled, the Butterfly singer took to social media to clear the air. “The only ‘explosive’ situation I’d ever ‘get into’ with Hov is a creative tangent, such as our #1 song ‘Heartbreaker’!!” she wrote on Instagram and Twitter along with a clip from the video of their 1999 collaboration.
“To the people who make up these lies I say ‘Poof! —Vamoose, sonofa*****’!” she continued, lifting a line from Jay-Z’s 2001 song “Izzo (H.O.V.A.)” where he dissed his critics by saying, “He who does not feel me / Is not real to me, therefore he doesn’t exist / So poof – vamoose, son of a b*tch!”
Carey did not directly confirm or deny whether she split from Roc Nation, but either way, it seems like there’s no bad blood there.
The singer first signed to the company in 2017, releasing different projects during her time with the group including her 2018 album Caution and 2020’s The Rarities.
It’s unclear if she’s working on any new music of her own at the time of this writing, but the website Rated R&B reports that she’s set to make an appearance on a new single called “Somewhat Loved” from the music duo Jam & Lewis, which drops on Friday, June 10. She previously worked with the two on songs such as “Thank God I Found You” from her 1999 album Heartbreaker, which also included the Jay-Z collab.
